I still think the 2000 South Carolina GOP primary was the nastiest in modern history

Catholic bashing, race baiting, attacking John McCain's children, mocking his captivity in Vietnam. Speeches at Bob Jones University (which still banned interracial dating).

And much of it went under the radar screen with robocalls and e-mails where Karl Rove could then claim deniability. But make no doubt about it, his guy benefited from it, his supporters were the instigators of all that stuff and the Bush campaign made no appeal to have such tactics stopped.

Besides, the GOP clown car may be down to four clowns, but they're all still clowns.

the way Dumbya and Rove attacked his adopted daughter was despicable. One can hardly blame Meghan McCain for still holding a grudge after the way her family was treated.
