But seriously, we live on a dynamic planet. The living conditions on this world has made humans and many other species adaptable, from figuring out physical strategies to survive, to being able to mutate our genes. I sometimes imagine what it would be like to live on a planet that wasn't a living entity. Just a rock floating in space. Maybe that's Heaven, no pain, no sorrow. Right now, we are like fleas on a dog, and maybe the planet needs to scratch once in awhile.

With a 113 mile bridge between there and dry land? In Hurricane Land? 1 foot above sea level? I'll pass.

I ws just looking at the map and seeing how those areas weren't Xed out.

I've been to Key West--definitely wouldn't want to be there during a hurrucane.

Not if I was sober, anyway.

I found it ironic that PBS was airing the Frontline documentary on Lahaina on Tuesday evening.

(Will there be one on this set of fires for the 2026-2027 season??)

Forested places we thought were safe, may not be. Even plenty of lakes don’t make us safe.

We've been lead by selfish men and women who care about nothing but their own bank account, who have no qualms about turning this planet into a burning cinder & garbage dump, as long as they can remain comfortable in their secure enclaves. Mother Nature is pissed, and she's cleaning up after us for the last time.

been talking about it since the 70's.... most of us have known for a long time and do what we can (most corporate people knew too, just too much money to make)

...led a workshop once on "alternatives to consumption" ah, the good ole days

When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.

I seem to remember this originally as saying, "...only then will the White Man realize..." , which makes sense. Native Americans lived WITH Nature, not constantly trying to control or contradict it.
