Gingrich, the multi-millionaire, says primary win a blow to elites

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - With a resounding comeback win in South Carolina, Newt Gingrich sent a message to Mitt Romney: not so fast.

Saturday's victory marks a remarkable turnabout for the former House speaker, who has battled back twice from near political oblivion. And it showed that Romney will face a fight from the right in order to take the GOP nomination.

Gingrich won with solid support from conservative and evangelical voters as well as those worried about the economy, according to exit polling.

On Saturday night before a packed crowd at the Hilton in Columbia, Gingrich cast his win as a victory over the "elites." He was gracious to his competitors, even Romney with whom he
has sparred.

Most of the 8-10% who would have voted for Perry, instead switched to Gingrich.

But with a mere $6.7 million, does his net worth really stand up to Romney's? http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jul/25/news/la-pn-gingrich-worth-20110725

After al, according to the WSJ, Obama is worth $5 million (actually google says they made $5.5 million last year alone) and Clinton worth $38 million and Jimmy Carter worth $7 million. http://247wallst.com/2010/05/17/the-net-worth-of-the-american-presidents-washington-to-obama/5/
