With the Mayan end of the world less than a week away, is this recent spate of extra-senseless violence due to nihilists and those who buy into such looking to go out in a big way?
Or is it people trying to out do each other? I think it was ABC had a Top 5 School Shootings graphic... seriously are we going to start ranking them??

(23,156 posts)I'm inclined to doubt that the recent shooters have been thinking that rationally.
Of course, if they don't leave behind a note of some kind saying something along the lines of, "Since the world is coming to an end anyway, I want to go out in a blaze of glory."
No. People who do these things have motives totally unrelated to end of the world nonsense, other than ending their personal world.
Here's something else to keep in mind. Every shooting that involves more than one victim is going to tend to be played up quite a bit in the next few days or weeks. It's like after some kind of airplane accident, all of a sudden you'll see stories about the emergency landings that pretty much happen every day of the week anyway, but just don't normally make the news.

(4,178 posts)except there have been reports that the mother had spoken about the end of times. Maybe she did put this crazy idea on her son.

(28,876 posts)Which is why I won't be taking my son into public places for the time being. Hate to admit it, but that's what I've decided. Was almost glad to see he's developed a minor cold, that justifies my decision. Sad times.
