Pit bulls and guns: I realized this morning that the arguments tend to follow the same lines:

- "the gun used wasn't a (fill in the blank), it was a ###, which proves how ignorant people are"
"the dog wasn't a pit bull, it was a ###, which proves how ignorant people are"

- "guns don't kill, people kill."
" there are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners"

- " it's foolish to try to ban certain types of guns"
" it's foolish to try to ban certain breeds"

- "people who don't own guns don't understand the hobby"
" people who don't own one don't understand how sweet they are"

killing children. In my neighborhood, I frequently see small people walking their 90 lb dogs on leases. Don't think for a minute that if a 90 pounder wants to get loose from the 120 lb owner's grip he/she couldn't do it.

although a huge difference in scale, guns are a much bigger problem. (I realize that's the most obvious thing anyone ever heard)

And I have also seen dog owners that think it is great to make a dog mean. To sic it on other animals or people. I am not even talking about pit owners but many of that type person own breeds that can be aggressive.

Then of course it is the dogs fault ,never does the owner get the blame. Yes there are bad dog owners!

No I don't own a pit but know folks who do including my son. A sweeter dog I have not met but they worked hard at socializing him.

I have 5 Newfoundlands and even though this breed has normally sweet temper they too could be made aggressive. No mine are sweet and only fear of them is being drooled on.
