https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/12/politics/cnn-poll-trump-economy/index.htmlAmericans are not impressed with President Donald Trumps stewardship of the economy, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, putting him underwater on the nations top issue even as he sees ratings among the best of his presidential career on other key priorities.
As markets slide and investors worry in response to Trumps trade policies, a 56% majority of the public disapproves of his handling of the economy, worse than at any point during his first term in office. By contrast, the 51% who now say they approve of his work on immigration headlined by stricter enforcement efforts is 7 points higher than at any point during his first term.
_____
Just 35% of Americans express a positive view of Musk, with 53% rating him negatively and 11% offering no opinion making him both better known and more substantially unpopular than Vice President JD Vance (whom 33% of Americans rate favorably and 44% unfavorably, with 23% having no opinion.) Roughly 6 in 10 Americans say that Musk has neither the right experience nor the right judgment to make changes to the way the government works. There is uneasiness about Musk even among some of the presidents supporters: 28% of those who see Trumps changes to the government as necessary doubt the tech billionaire has the judgment to carry them out.
A 55% majority of Americans say that the Trump administrations changes to the federal government are being made largely to advance his agenda, with 45% calling the changes necessary to ensure the government functions properly.

The sad truth is that the country is made up of a lot of racist, sexist, bigots. This is "American exceptionalism", and trump represents them perfectly.

(91,565 posts)like the media and others repeatedly saying Biden is too old so they go along. If they hear more about Trump being a good businessman they go along with it. They do no in depth research. They don't even read articles.

(98,144 posts)so-called "press conferences" during the campaign when there was NO follow-up questions or challenges on false statements.
The pathetic thing is for the most part they are still doing it.

(91,565 posts)Harris after she did well in the debate and was just doing well overall.
There was this vague bs being pushed like "but we don't really know her", "who is she", as if there was something there and she was some unknown that turned up out of nowhere.
Even in reality she had served in public office in California and the Senate and as Vice President. But they question none of the bs from Trump while questioning whether there is something questionable about Harris. Much of this played into the misogyny and racism.
Even now you hear about people saying they didn't think Trump would really do this or that and it's just talk. Why why the fuck would you support someone like that for the Presidency.

(98,144 posts)While since the opposite should have been the case.
Under republican administrations it was always the Democrats who cleaned up the mess left behind.
I am not sure why the myth persists that republicans are better or the economy, because that just hasn't been the case.

The sad thing is, there are still people who believe that myth.

(98,144 posts)because their memories are short.
After the pandemic, the economic crisis, and the insurrection attempt on January 6 by trump and his thugs, that he would have occupied the WH again four years later would have been thought impossible in a NORMAL, ethical, country.
There is nothing normal or ethical about what is happening.

(Of course, being in Florida, that other 44 percent is mostly my neighbors)
Same in Ohio.

(22,556 posts)Yeah, this makes me really understand how we have lost our way. America now likes seeing other hurt, that's why the majority of people like his illegal and cruel actions on immigration, because they get off on seeing others hurt and suffering, as long as it's not them or theirs.

(14,314 posts)While a dictator holds power a slight majority for or against is not relevant to much.
Let me know when it hits 75%. Or 30% who are willing to be in the streets trying to remove him. Or 50% of republicans demanding their reps remove him from power.
Till there are the kind of numbers that will actually result in change, polling seems irrelevant to me.

(67,724 posts)rude with my response but fuck the polls. And CNN is making this a "normal thing" is shameful. They bent the knee to this felon instead of informing the citizenry.
What this regime is doing is a full-on assault on our country and us. Which we all know.
Elon Musk is a domestic terrorist going into our most sensitive business. This is not normal.
Those who implemented Project 2025, have no shame. These are vile people.
We need to stop this, by mobilizing and planning to get in the streets either locally or in DC.

That may not be true, but there's every indication that if it's not, there can be very little else it could be.

(8,599 posts)I think it likely his innate repugnance has caused him issues all his life. There's a chance he thought vast wealth would overcome his bad mojo, but it only worked to a degree. As his public visibility climbs, the adoration he craved slips further away and the public's distaste for him reinforces his insecurities, which likely feeds into his darker desires for retribution and power.
