Apart from saying that Greenland is integral to U.S. national security and neglected by Denmark, and that he wants its minerals, the only explicit desire President Donald Trump has expressed about the island is that he wants the U.S. to own it.

Second lady Usha Vance was scheduled to arrive in Greenland this week to take in the cultural sights and attend a dog sled race with one of her children. Scratch that. Plans have changed. Now Vice President JD Vance is joining his wife for a one-day tour at the isolated U.S. space base intended to defend America against ballistic missile attack.

Trump has been toggling between making veiled threats and wooing Greenlanders with promises of wealth and security. The president sent his son Donald Trump Jr. there for a day in January. His entourage handed out free food and MAGA ball caps to a handful of locals, who posed for photos. Greenlanders mostly dismissed it as a ham-handed stunt.

The president has argued that Greenland is vital to U.S. national security. His team has also spoken of the vast untapped mineral wealth of the world’s largest island: the critical and rare earth minerals needed to make the technologies, including batteries, smartphones and electric vehicles, that power the 21st century ....

The Vances will travel only to northwest Greenland, to Pituffik Space Base, formerly Thule Air Base, which operates a network of early-warning radars, satellites and sensors to detect incoming intercontinental ballistic missiles.

A U.S. force that once numbered 10,000 troops at the height of the Cold War is now down to about 200 ...

23. What's especially annoying about their treatment of Greenland

Is that some form of North American Arctic union is not a bad idea in theory, as a kind of blossoming of NATO into something greater and stronger against the danger of Russia. But it would only be that if pursued on a slow, subtle, rational, respectful, and democratic basis.

Which is of course why a fucking traitor owned by Russia instead declares his intentions to invade Canada and Greenland just to destroy our alliances. And even if everybody realizes it, Russia has beshitted the idea enough as to successfully delay any such possibility by an unknowable amount of time.

Just for that shit, I say we blockade Kaliningrad. In fact, let's repay them for the Gulf of Mexico bullshit too and start calling it Koenigsberg again. Motherfuckers must pay.
