Debbie Wasserman Schultz: What About Romney's Taxes Back At Bain Capital?

First:

Mitt Romney Says He Won’t Release More Than Two Years Of Tax Returns Because of ‘The Internet’

By Judd Legum

Today on Fox News Sunday, Mitt Romney said he would release his 2010 tax return (along with an estimate of his 2011 taxes) on Tuesday.

Fox’s Chris Wallace pressed Romney on why he would only release two years of returns when his father released twelve during his run for President. Romney said he wouldn’t release as many tax returns as his father did because that was “before the internet.” Watch it:

Romney’s answer seems to suggest that he won’t release more returns because, in the internet age, they will be subject to increased scrutiny. Two days ago, Romney said he would not release his tax returns until April because he didn’t want to give “a nice little present” to the Democrats.

In late December, Romney said he would not release any tax returns at all.

He's afraid of something!

Debbie Wasserman Schultz: What About Romney's Taxes Back At Bain Capital?

Democrats are keeping the pressure on Mitt Romney to release at least several years of tax returns rather than the two he says he’d release on Tuesday, saying that Americans should be able to see how he handled taxes while he still worked at Bain Capital.

“this is a man who has proved that he believes he can play by his own set of rules, refusing to come clean on his job record and how exactly he made his millions,” DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz told reporters on a conference call Sunday. She added that Romney should release his 2011 and 2010 tax returns today rather than wait until Tuesday.

According to the DNC, refusing to release tax records from when he was “entwined with Bain Capital” puts the lie to his campaign’s claim that he should be elected based on his private sector record.

AND his short form birth certificate. Then he produced his long form birth certificate as well.

Willard should do the same as the man he's trying to run against. They ALL should, otherwise none should be qualified to run against President Obama.

Will Republicans get their mindless TBaggers out to demand to see his short and long form birth certificate, too?

Taxes and Transparency

Barack Obama released his tax records when he ran for president in 2008. So did Richard Nixon in 1968. In fact, so did George Romney in that same campaign.

<...>

As recently as last month, Mr. Romney was refusing to make his income tax returns public should he become the nominee, much less allow voters to see them before Saturday’s primary in South Carolina. “I don’t intend to release the tax returns. I don’t,” Mr. Romney told Chuck Todd of NBC News in December.

But public pressure to release his tax records may finally be getting through to the Republican front-runner. On Monday night, during a debate in South Carolina, Mr. Romney said, “If that has been the tradition, I’m not opposed to doing that.” But, he added, “Time will tell.” He also said, “I’ll keep that open.” Then he said he “probably” would do it only if he became the nominee.

There is no “if” about the tradition. President Obama released eight years’ worth of tax returns when he pursued his party’s nomination four years ago. He has already made public his complete return for 2010, as well as other tax filings since he took office, as presidents of both parties have done for decades.

The last excuse he blamed the Democrats will give him a drip drip effect in criticizing him if he doesn't release everything at once.

He talks so highly of himself about "success" yet is afraid to release his tax returns. He's hiding something and it's probably HUGE. It will probably expose almost everything wrong with our tax code and be a prime example of Obama's talking points.

they let their accountants handle it. So he probably has no idea what creative accounting was done to minimize his taxes (and his bracket usually has to file quarterly anyway). I.e., it was only recently that the IRS has started auditing more millionaires than in the past: http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-irs-millionaire-audits-20120106,0,16218.story

The special election was on January 9th 2010, they will have some lame excuse stating that he change his residency in early 2010.
