Was anyone ever arrested, fined or jailed for violation of the Assault Weapon Ban?

During its 10 year reign of terror, was a Manufacturer, importer or citizen ever in violation? What happened? Was the punishment severe?

Just wondering if anyone can remember anything about that part of the ban.

And renamed the TEC-9 the AB-10 (for "After Ban&quot , which in both cases made them legal under it.

Seriously, a lot of the resistance to it was not because "it took our guns" (people who owned them knew it didn't do that) but because it was such an unbelievably stupid law and its supporters didn't even bother to find out what it did, so it seemed like a pointless culture war "fuck you" to gun owners.

Too, I was hoping to see if DU members would have any thoughts concerning enforcement of Gun Control laws that might be enacted because of the Newtown Tragedy.

Thanks for the idea though....do you have a favorite search engine?

I can't think of a manufacturer that ran afoul of the ban per se.

Nothing about being charged by Feds that I see. Interesting that they renamed a gun to get around a California law.

After some mass shooting or other where the gunman used a TEC-9. This was back in the 80s, and the case dragged on for over a decade, and eventually they just declared bankruptcy even though they "won" their case for the most part.

Anybody else? Since the law primarily applied to manufacturers, I think they complied with the law.

Since it was a law that applied to the manufacture and importation, it wouldn't have been like Joe Schmoe down the street got in trouble with the feds.

I do remember some overzealous cop trying to claim that some guy's magazine marked as 'LEO Only' (>10 rounds) was illegal *after* the ban expired, but that was more of a rolling of eyes news story.
