A Gingrich nomination would give Obama a golden opportunity...but will he take it?

A Gingrich nomination means we can win, and win solidly, on a clearly progressive and inclusive campaign that actually defends the people in this country that the Right attacks-a campaign that says "we are ALL Americans, we are all equally Americans, we all belong and we all have a right to have a say".

It means we can bring in the poor, labor, and the new dispossessed of the continuing post-2008 capital strike against the administration in a people's electoral army for justice and equality. Obama could win with that and win massively.

Will he and his advisors take this chance?

Or will they do the same thing that failed four times with Reagan and both times with Dubbikins...run a bland, timid "we're not as bad" campaign that accepts all the right-wing lies about "welfare queens" and leaves everyone who's been screwed by this system out in the cold, while simply demanding that people vote for a Democratic ticket that keeps edging further and further right, in a desperate effort to win over a "center" that we all know no longer exists?

Clearly, the first campaign would guarantee Obama re-election and the second would likely cause his defeat...will he and his advisors learn the lesson of electoral history?

And I was offering a strategy that could work, as opposed to the "post-partisan" strategy we now know can never work. The article you posted, while interesting, was nothing new and was not a repudiation of the OP.

The OP was written in service to getting Obama re-elected, not to attack him. A progressive campaign would win, a centrist campaign couldn't, as all the centrist campaigns against Reagan proved.

And what is being done that won't work? Better yet, what is he doing that will? I know, that's not in your agenda, but try.
I'm going to bed.

Go, Giants!

is trying to beat right-wingers by dissing our base and shading further and further right. Pat Brown tried it against Reagan in 1966, Jesse Unruh tried it against Reagan in 1970, Carter tried it against Reagan in 1980 and Mondale did the same in 1984. Failure every time.

Same with both campaigns against Dubya.

Where is Obama on this?

I'm hoping, at this point, he's at least on the fence. I'm hoping that he gets it that everything he did in the 2010 congressional campaign was an absolute failure and that everything Rahm did as political strategy for the first two years has to be discarded. I WANT Obama to learn and move on, as he has the capacity to do.

This isn't an Obama-bashing thread. It's a "learn from history" thread. OK?

(And, btw, I'm with you on the Giants. The Pats are too damn arrogant to ever be allowed to win another Super Bowl.)
