Some of those teabaggers in the House who will vote on the bill won't even be returning in the new Congress.

As it is now the only thing they are working to resolve is the tax issue. Nothing is being included about the sequestration mandate or the debt ceiling.

Had we waited for another week we would have had an even stronger Democratically-controlled Senate (given the outcome of the Senate vote that is probably not that significant) but also fewer tea baggers in the House and a few more Democrats.

The only effects of the tax "cliff" would have been
- The expiration of the payroll tax holiday - that is not being renewed under the "deal"
- Expiration of the Bush era tax cuts for everyone - even if employers with payrolls in the next week or so would withhold at the higher levels, that could be retro-actively fixed
- Earned Income Tax Credit, Business R&D tax deduction, etc. - could be addressed in the future

I would have preferred to wait until the new Congress as seated to vote on these issues but BO decided he would push this thing through. I understand his motivation but feel he may have been too trigger-happy and should have shown more restraint.

pittance of what we might have gained. We lost a powerful weapon to a dead duck...I can't make any sense of it, esp., given the whole contrived "cliff" was just a big orchestrated game of chicken. Our "victory" gives us less, and we could have gained so much more, if not only our own self-respect.

The game is certainly rigged, of that, there's little doubt.

In this state, all the new Reps are in the current House. One incumbent lost out when two districts were combined, due to the census.
