I'm pretty confidient that the House will go into a civil war on the Republicans vs teabaggers.

And I'm breaking out the popcorn - and investing on popcorn stocks.

As do some of the other comments around this time period during the "Chained CPI" flareup.

You probably wouldn't count the numerous and recurring "lesser of two evils" slights when people pretty much minimize their vote for the President, but it's clear that many have never thought much of him and it intensifies around speculative media tidbits and rumours that he's going to do something dastardly to the poor and middle class.

When about half of DU is painting a picture of Obama as a dastardly motherfucker who wants nothing else but to slash social security and medicare, for no conceivable reason at all, perhaps just 'cause he enjoys watching the needy suffer, yes, the clear implication is that he's evil.

The Repukes are sending this country over the edge, and if we do go over the cliff it will be the fault of Repukes in the House.

Republicans in Congress end up with ownership for pushing the country over the cliff. President Obama and the Democrats can tell the country, "Look, we worked hard to pass a bill and the House Republicans couldn't put the welfare of the country ahead of their own ideology." The Democrats need to shove it right down the throats of the House Republicans and do everything they can to rile up the people. House Republicans need to be perceived to be totally toxic. The mid-term election ground game needs to be put into motion now.

Truth be told, I don't think all Republicans particularly favor the idea either; the elderly are their voters, after all.

Dealing with reality.

He has sat down at the table every time when requested.

He has shown a willingness to compromise to the point of the nervous nellies here having cows.

He has given honest budgetary input.

And all this is public record. With all the attendant video, and sound bites. The GOP is going to emerge from this debacle with even less camouflage on their true natures and positions.

Our new Senate will provide some additional thrust behind the "cliff" negotiations. We won't get everything we want, but it will be an incremental move towards progressive goals.
