The Hastert Rule is dead. May it rot in peace.

This actually was an historic vote, in some ways, because the Speaker brought forward legislation he couldn't pass without minority votes.

We will be looking at a very different Republican majority in two days: the big question is whether they accept this fact and re-elect Boehner, or try to go back to the bygone days of yore with a more confrontational Speaker. Watch this space.

I suppose the fact that Fuzzy Little Grover gave the deal his official "well, okay" helped.

But I don't think the Hastert Rule is dead by a long shot. Boehner probably just pointed out to his flock that there'd be hell to pay in the morning if the markets tanked because everything went south in the House.
