VICTORY FOR H2O MAN - Mission accomplished, hunger strike at an end

His goals were very simple: a meeting with Senator Libous on the issue of fracking. He kept getting dodged and ducked, until this stike was the only way to get the meeting.

He got it.

===

Hi, Will:

It was a wild day. To make a long story short, I gave a speech in the Capital -- it went pretty well -- and a couple hours later, met with Senator Libous, then with his staff. And, man, does food taste good!

More tomorrow. I have some medical appointments in the morning and afternoon, then am planning to stay home and write up some of what went on.

Again, thank you for your support & article. I'll send a few links from some of the news sites that were there.

Pat

So glad the hunger strike is over, and that it worked. Too bad you have to go to such extremes just to get a meeting with 'YOUR' Representative.

I had a funny phone call/interview with a conservative reporter today. She said, "So, actually, you really didn't accomplish anything, did you?" Ha!

I told her that she needed to read Amendment #1, which provides for citizens to voice their concerns with the government. I noted that this is not only a right, but an absolute responsibility. More, it implies that elected officials have the responsibility to listen to citizens.

Area high school and college students were paying close attention to this little conflict. It was providing an uncivil civics lesson. Had my goal been conflict, rather than dealing with conflict, in hopes of resolution, I could have done damage to this politician's reputation. No politician wants to be called out by high school students, taking courses in the social studies, especially in regard to government.

One more point: I am the same very average, often cranky old man who has posted on DU for 9 years. I'm but a drop in the ocean of humanity. As Gandhi said, a drop in the ocean partakes in the greatness of its parent; it is when a drop wanders off in an attempt to earn an individual reputation that it dries up. What I did was, I think, important. But I'm not.

Thanks.
