Peter King: Halt donations to House GOP

New York Republican Rep. Peter King went to war with his Republican colleagues on Wednesday after leaders spiked a Hurricane Sandy relief bill, calling on New Yorkers to stop all donations to GOP House members.

“These Republicans have no problem finding New York when they’re out raising millions of dollars,” King said on Fox News. “They’re in New York all the time filling their pockets with money from New Yorkers. I’m saying right now, anyone from New York or New Jersey who contributes one penny to congressional Republicans is out of their minds. Because what they did last night was put a knife in the back of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans. It was an absolute disgrace.”

King also said he was ready to buck Republican leaders on every issue until the Sandy aid is approved.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m on my own,” King said. “They’re going to have to go a long way to get my vote on anything.”

Welcome to your party, dickwad.

Libertarian...You are on your own.
Republican...If you're not rich you're not shit.

How about some offsets to pay for this

-Cut corporate welfare
-AMT for those earning over $500K
-Surcharge on personal money kept outside the US. Not declaring it would be become a crime.
-Surcharge on ALL Wall Street transactions. 2.5%...not that much. No 'sunset' - require vote to kill it as that will make it harder to kill. This alone should help fix so much of what is wrong and the same rat bastards that helped create this mess can help pay to help fix it.
-Restrict number of contractors used by the Feds (including DoD!).
-The list could go on.

70. A 2.5% surcharge on Wall Street transactions is outrageous
Wed Jan 2, 2013, 04:22 PM
Jan 2013

Wall Street makes money on volume.

One of the most common banking transactions is interbank loans. A bank must maintain a certain level of liquidity to cover withdrawals - if they don't have the money they borrow it from another bank. The interest rate charged is LIBOR, or London Interbank Offered Rate. Today's 1-month LIBOR is 0.21 percent. Charging 2.5 percent on top of that would kill banks.

My suggestion is 0.02 percent surcharge on loans and 2 cents per share on stock transactions - not enough to kill the economy but big enough to drop serious ducats into the treasury.

Wed Jan 2, 2013, 05:11 PM
Jan 2013

2.5 is a tad high. I'll grant you...
But you know what?

45+ million people with no health insurance
12+ million people jobless
650K+ people homeless

I see something there to be outraged about.

The US exports war or weapons of war all over the world and yet we call ourselves a peace loving nation.

Something to be outraged about there.

We play games with the educational systems that are to teach our citizens of tomorrow (our own true legacies, our children) to the point that much of that learning is achieved in spite of those systems, rather than because of.

We abuse and denigrate the very individuals we ourselves place in charge of our children's classrooms and then provide them with textbooks that have been rewritten by some lunatic without a clue.

That goes beyond outrage. That should be a call to arms.

Spare me on the banks. If they can afford billions in executive salaries and bonuses they can take a hit on their bottom line.

LIBOR...That sounds strangely familiar to me as well. Outrage comes to mind on that, too.

Hard numbers: Average volume on the New York Stock Exchange is 1.5 billion shares per day. Then there's NASDAQ and OTC volume...to be kind let's call it a total of 2.5 billion shares per day. Two cents per share would bring in $14.5 billion per year just from stocks. Then there are bonds and derivatives to tax.

You could solve a lot of problems with that much money.

After all, I used to consider myself a Republican until I realized that everything they stood for disadvantaged and marginalized me personally. When I opened my eyes, I realized that they were against everything that I believed about social justice, personal liberty, and appropriate fiscal policies.

Seems like a lifetime ago that I came to that awareness though it's only been about 30 years ago. I'm still doing penitence for my vote for Reagan's first term.

Now republicans want to cut them off?? After repubs. voted them in, let them build their BS mountain a mile high with Americans money.

We should cut out their pay checks, kick the Lobbyists out-make bribery a crime!.Make them have ONLY medicare as their provided free health care benefits.

Seems like republicans miss those Bush Katrina hurricane days where the citizens suffered in disasters.

Oh, yeah, I though it was, Peter King. Welcome to the real world, time for you to join the Dem in voting, if not in party.

Does he only support aid when it's in his state and district but doesn't think relief for others is merited? This goes along with one report of tea party sentiments - I've earned my SS or medicare but not those other people.

The irony gave me a chuckle.

...the House did a bad, bad thing by not passing the Hurricane bill. It's laying right there, ready to go. I don't care if it was Peter King's district or not. Americans are in dire distress and the bill should have been passed. It just shows how evil the Republican Party has become. I just hope the electorate is keeping tabs and throws them out in 2014. Hopefully in a few days when the new members are sworn in, this most serious issue will be dealt with? It just seems like it's hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait. It is so frustrating and SAD. We can thank GWB for everything that is happening now....

Rep. King doesn't realize the consequences of the RW worldview until he's directly affected.

He's been a Republican all this time, though the abuses of the Bush/Cheney era. He made his bed, now he can lie in it.

Only now, only now, does Petey King finally accept the reality of the matter; sometimes, it really does help for the government to step in when needed.

I didn't catch it all, but he said something about Boehner either called him an "expletive" or told him to do something concerning an expletive. Kind of sounds like Boehner told him to go fuck himself. Ah, those Republicans and their terms of endearment brings a tear to my eye.

It was utterly disgusting. I don't like Mutt Lauer, but I give him credit for keeping on this filthy turd. He had King spinning around the bowl as if the flap was stuck open, and it was in a perpetual flush. "Yeah, he told me to go fuck myself, but I'm going to vote to give him back his job anyway." They deserve each other. It's a damn shame the rest of us have to put up with those slimy dirt bags, too.

Lauer is a big-time repug, and even he seemed shocked that King backtracked after all that.

the GOP shows its true nasty colors. Why does anyone vote for these people. No doubt this is retribution against Mr. Christie for being civil and respectful toward the president in the aftermath of the hurricane.

97. Is money crossing state lines from oligarchs etc financing politicians in other states a good thing?

I know this isn't your point but his statement is emblematic in how we have come to such pathetic government. It leads to government for out of state rich instead of government for the people of their state. I also do not support millionaires with beach front houses being reimbursed by taxpayers to rebuild multiple times on the beach, which is what typically happens. Help should be combined with lessening the cost of future disasters but it rarely ever does.
