These Republicans have no problem finding New York when theyre out raising millions of dollars, King said on Fox News. Theyre in New York all the time filling their pockets with money from New Yorkers. Im saying right now, anyone from New York or New Jersey who contributes one penny to congressional Republicans is out of their minds. Because what they did last night was put a knife in the back of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans. It was an absolute disgrace.

King also said he was ready to buck Republican leaders on every issue until the Sandy aid is approved.
As far as Im concerned, Im on my own, King said. Theyre going to have to go a long way to get my vote on anything.

(34,333 posts)Wasn't King one of those who demanded spending cuts before disaster aid to tornado-ravaged areas & the post-BP Gulf coast? Now that it's HIS ass that's in a sling, it's another story. These bullshit baggers just don't get it until life slaps them upside the head.

Libertarian...You are on your own.
Republican...If you're not rich you're not shit.
How about some offsets to pay for this
-Cut corporate welfare
-AMT for those earning over $500K
-Surcharge on personal money kept outside the US. Not declaring it would be become a crime.
-Surcharge on ALL Wall Street transactions. 2.5%...not that much. No 'sunset' - require vote to kill it as that will make it harder to kill. This alone should help fix so much of what is wrong and the same rat bastards that helped create this mess can help pay to help fix it.
-Restrict number of contractors used by the Feds (including DoD!).
-The list could go on.

(50,528 posts)Wall Street makes money on volume.
One of the most common banking transactions is interbank loans. A bank must maintain a certain level of liquidity to cover withdrawals - if they don't have the money they borrow it from another bank. The interest rate charged is LIBOR, or London Interbank Offered Rate. Today's 1-month LIBOR is 0.21 percent. Charging 2.5 percent on top of that would kill banks.
My suggestion is 0.02 percent surcharge on loans and 2 cents per share on stock transactions - not enough to kill the economy but big enough to drop serious ducats into the treasury.

But you know what?
45+ million people with no health insurance
12+ million people jobless
650K+ people homeless
I see something there to be outraged about.
The US exports war or weapons of war all over the world and yet we call ourselves a peace loving nation.
Something to be outraged about there.
We play games with the educational systems that are to teach our citizens of tomorrow (our own true legacies, our children) to the point that much of that learning is achieved in spite of those systems, rather than because of.
We abuse and denigrate the very individuals we ourselves place in charge of our children's classrooms and then provide them with textbooks that have been rewritten by some lunatic without a clue.
That goes beyond outrage. That should be a call to arms.
Spare me on the banks. If they can afford billions in executive salaries and bonuses they can take a hit on their bottom line.
LIBOR...That sounds strangely familiar to me as well. Outrage comes to mind on that, too.

(50,528 posts)Hard numbers: Average volume on the New York Stock Exchange is 1.5 billion shares per day. Then there's NASDAQ and OTC volume...to be kind let's call it a total of 2.5 billion shares per day. Two cents per share would bring in $14.5 billion per year just from stocks. Then there are bonds and derivatives to tax.
You could solve a lot of problems with that much money.

Ah well, we come to enlightenment through different paths. I hope that his present awareness is permanent.
After all, I used to consider myself a Republican until I realized that everything they stood for disadvantaged and marginalized me personally. When I opened my eyes, I realized that they were against everything that I believed about social justice, personal liberty, and appropriate fiscal policies.
Seems like a lifetime ago that I came to that awareness though it's only been about 30 years ago. I'm still doing penitence for my vote for Reagan's first term.

Will the Tea Party stay in the Republican Party and agitate?
Will the Tea Party leave the Republican Party to form their own party?
Will the Tea Party and the Libertarians in the Republican Party leave to form a single party?
Will the Tea Party just close up shop and go away?

Rep. Michael Grimm On Failure To Act On Sandy Aid: Beyond Surprising
David Taintor 11:15 AM EST, Wednesday January 2, 2013
Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) on Wednesday said he was "utterly devastated" after the House of Representatives adjourned the night before without taking up Hurricane Sandy relief legislation. "It was beyond surprising," Grimm said on WNYC, adding that House Speaker John Boehner's office indicated that a vote would go forward.
"I especially feel like the rug was just pulled out from under me, I don't know how else to say it," Grimm said.

(10,597 posts)...the House did a bad, bad thing by not passing the Hurricane bill. It's laying right there, ready to go. I don't care if it was Peter King's district or not. Americans are in dire distress and the bill should have been passed. It just shows how evil the Republican Party has become. I just hope the electorate is keeping tabs and throws them out in 2014. Hopefully in a few days when the new members are sworn in, this most serious issue will be dealt with? It just seems like it's hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait. It is so frustrating and SAD. (172 posts)I know this isn't your point but his statement is emblematic in how we have come to such pathetic government. It leads to government for out of state rich instead of government for the people of their state. I also do not support millionaires with beach front houses being reimbursed by taxpayers to rebuild multiple times on the beach, which is what typically happens. Help should be combined with lessening the cost of future disasters but it rarely ever does.
