indy insanity: Sen. Dennis Kruse files bill that would allow schools to require saying Lord's Prayer

The chairman of the Senate education committee, who last year unsuccessfully sought the teaching of creationism in schools, now wants public schools to have the option of beginning each day with the Lord’s Prayer.

Sen. Dennis Kruse, R-Auburn, has filed a bill that would allow school districts to require the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, though individual students could opt out if they or their parents preferred.

With former U.S. Rep. Mike Pence taking office as Indiana’s next governor and with his fellow Republicans holding overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate, some critics have anticipated an easy path for such socially conservative issues in this year’s legislature.

But Pence has said his focus is on the issues of taxes, education and jobs, not social issues. And House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, echoed that, saying Republicans in the House “all understand our focus. .?.?. We’re going to focus on what’s important: budget integrity, job creation and improving education.”

Or, alternatively, Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic.

block letters. Cuneiform is a writing system, not a spoken language.

Now, we need to find a way of converting the Lord's prayer into something similar. Kids would love it because they'd get to dance and palm people's faces in place of some words

Can be spoken today, Hittite for one. At my college roommate's wedding, in the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago, the entire ceremony was in Sumerian and done by Dr. Simo Parpula, a noted Sumerologist. The wife of our Hittite professor, Mrs. Guterbock, sung a wedding song in Hittite whose melody had only recently been translated. It was pretty neat, especially since the wedding party was in costume as we're some of the guests. I went as the Egyptian envoy and had a special part in the ceremony. Like I said, it was neat.

It's still the same prayer, just reversed, like backwards-masked satanic music

You know, we as a nation are already falling behind in many ways with education and that is due in part to spending our time fighting these asinine things.

Kruse, a soft-spoken conservative who has been in the legislature since 1999, has already stirred controversy for the coming legislative session. In December, Kruse said he would not reintroduce his legislation to teach creationism alongside evolution but instead planned to seek a “truth in education” bill. That, he said, would require teachers to provide evidence if students challenge their science lessons.

“If a student thinks something isn’t true, then they can question the teacher, and the teacher would have to come up with some kind of research to support that what they are teaching is true or not true,” he said then.

Back to the prayer issue. Why can't prayer-ful students pray with their families or by themselves prior to setting foot into school or silently in school? To me Kruse's efforts are attempts to unconstitutionally spread the Word.

Seriously. Diane Feinstein is under withering fire from gun advocates who are having a conniption about the 2nd Amendment and their Constitutional rights. But the silence is deafening from these same people when legislation like this is proposed. Just more proof that they're not really interested in defending the Constitutional rights of Americans. They're interested in defending guns.
