Does Anyone Think That The Payroll Tax Deduction Rollback Was A 3D Chess Move On ....

the President's part. Now when the Repugs make moves on SS during the upcomong debt ceiling debate it will be fresh in the minds of the American People that SS is not an entitlement and they know they are paying into the system. They will not buy the Repugs argument now because it will really look like the Repugs are trying to take their money and their future SS which is their property. I think this was a stroke of genius on the part of the President.

Hey, I hate to see my payroll taxes go up but I need Social Security and I know I have to pay for it. Even republican voters can understand the concept of getting what you pay for!

The temporary payroll tax cut (a stimulus measure to try to help boost spending and therefore jumpstart the economy) was a reduction of 2% in your payroll taxes. It's expired now, and you'll be paying 2% more. I think people have always known they are paying SS and FICA taxes.

better than your "you'll be paying 2% more".

Not to put too fine a point on it....

that really make it apparent that they are contributing to SS. In the next few weeks the Repugs will be coming after the so-called entitlements especially SS and the reaction of the American People should be - Hey that's my money and you're not touching it. Of course this needs to be reinforced by the President and the Dems. I just think the timing of this expiration of this tax break is going to be an asset in fighting the fight for not touching SS.

98% of middle class workers will feel the effect of the payroll tax cut ending. What was he thinking? If the Bush Tax cuts for the rich were extended 4 years then why didn't he do crap to extend the payroll tax cut for the masses? It was nice he preserved long term unemployment for 2 million people, however that wasn't as important as preserving payroll tax cuts for 160 million of us.

The 2% won't even fee the affect of a measly 3% tax increase. The prez didn't need to cave to the Repugs.

Going over the cliff been much better. Seeing their sacred cow of Defense spending being cut? Priceless!

and its extension wasn't a stimulus he could get.

No need to try to make it more complicated.

Depends on tax burdens going forward as well as plans for social security. Raising the cap would be best. Hope it is a 3D chess move as opposed to a triple dick move.

I am done with any of the main parties now. Imagine families of 4 or 5 struggling to make ends meet, only to see another $1000-$1500 of their income disappear. However, all income about $113,000 remain untouched.

I am so mad I could spit nails.
