(12,296 posts)... I am finding that "friends" on Facebook that I've known since middle school, who were the dumbest and/or least engaged, have grown up to be Tea-folks.
Teh Stoopid runs deep. Sigh.

(71,611 posts)I've seen that myself with the vast majority of high school "friends." It was startling, at first, when I saw how many supported Bush/Cheney, and parroted Faux Snooze talking points. While I knew that my high school was in a predominantly Republican/conservative neighborhood, I recall it as fairly benign "Eisenhower Republican." When the AstroTurf Teahadists arose from their self-indulged contemplation of their navels, I saw many/most marching in lockstep. When one of the minority of 'liberal' classmates spoke up, they'd be "excommunicated' from the "classmates" site, which was primarily focused on planning the next class reunion. It turned out that the most prevalent members of this group still lived within 20-30 miles of the high school, where the more 'liberal' classmates were scattered all over the country. The "siege mentality" of the Reich-wingers became obvious ... as did abysmal ignorance of anything beyond their myopic world view.
Sad.

(12,296 posts)... I really believe there is something to the 'studies' that show that Faux News/GOP folks have lower IQ's than liberals.
It got me to wondering, what makes 'dumb people'? I mean, if (theoretically) babies are born with equal brain cells & learning ability, and kids grow up going to the same schools, why do some become NASA scientists & others are WalMart greeters?
My parents weren't engaged with me at all - I was a menopause baby, basically raised myself on Scooby Doo & the Brady Bunch - yet I smoked my classmates, consistently, in test scores, grades, standardized tests, etc. while others who came from 'normal families' started out dumb and stayed that way, and are now posting pro-Teabagger/NRA/G*d-in-schools shit on their Facebook pages.
Just seems curious.
