Even Dancing With the Stars Couldn't Keep Tom DeLay From Prison

Whenever you get despairing that a minority of the nation and media has been on an accelerating free-fall into Dante's Inferno dragging the rest of us through the flames -- remember that even the mightiest of the evil doers can be brought to justice.
You can't get anymore joyful than hearing that Tom DeLay, a firm believer in the health benefits of Dioxin and last seen publicly shimmying his booty in satin bolero pants on "Dancing with the Stars," has just been sentenced to three years in prison. As The Huffington Post reports:
~snip~
DeLay, House Majority Leader from 2003-05 and was the capo dei capi (Godfather) of the Republican caucus under House Speaker Dennis "Where's the Chicken?" Hastert. I recall an aide of DeLay being quoted as saying that (paraphrased) "You don't just kick a Democrat when he's down, you roll him in a carpet and toss him over the cliff." That was how DeLay played: down, mean, merciless, dirty, and well-oiled with "K Street Project" money. The former Texas bug exterminator (we are not making this up) could bite a copperhead snake's head off and swallow it down with a martini.
DeLay was a Chamber of Commerce man, but his social right wing policies also aligned him with the padded wall squad. He was sort of a mad dog precursor to the Tea Party financed by the Koch Brothers.

(124 posts)Back in 2006 Mr. DeLay started a blog. For the first hour it was online, the comments weren't moderated, but an enterprising blogger archived them before they were scrubbed.

(53,661 posts)Also dated 2011. Huffpo has been redating old article, probably automatically. Third post in a week.
Delay has not sentenced again to 3 years. He has been on bail all this time while his case is going through appeal. DeGuerin has filed to have it dismissed and the jurisdiction has been moved from the previous judge. He has not served a day.
He is not in prison, we hashed this story out with people in Texas months ago when Huffpo did this same thing with the story. It's hard to find anything about the case now, but the way Huffpo is presenting these I understand the confusion.
That we keep doing this knee jerk reaction here is sad because we're being made fools of here. Not in prison now, or anytime soon.
Not that he doesn't deserve prison for his staging of the Brooks Brothers riot in 2000 to halt the vote and steal the election for Bush. That is his biggest crime as it was a violation of the CFR on federal employees interfering in elections. And we saw what havoc 8 years of Bush did to the nation and the world.
He also abused DHS authority while in D.C. to bring Texas Democrats back to face what may have been illegal redistricting for the 'permanent Republican majority' he bragged about creating and that Grover Nordquist still counts on. He crossed so many lines and never paid for it.
EOM.

(144,919 posts)One of the more amusing arguments being advanced by DeLay's counsel is that the Texas money laundering law only applies to cash and not to checks. Since DeLay paid by check, the law does not apply DeLay is paying some big bucks for some of the top attorneys in Houston to make these arguments

(144,919 posts)Here is a good explanation from Juanita Jean http://juanitajean.com/2013/01/05/two-year-old-stuff-does-not-count-as-news/
About 50 people have emailed me to let me know that Tom DeLay is going to prison. It has apparently spread all over the internet machine.
Well, duh. That happened two years ago. I was there. We even had a party the night before. I saw that sniveling little man stand before the judge and give unsworn testimony that he was not whining (he had to say that 3 times) but that Nancy Pelosi, Patrick Kennedy and Ronnie Earl made him do this. The little coward clutched his Bible to his chest but wouldnt take an oath to tell the truth.
The best I can figure is that somebody at the Huffington Post accidentally re-posted the two year old story and it caught fire.
The case has been on appeal for two years. Tom DeLay is begging money for his legal defense fund. The money is being handled by Brent Perry, the son of Bob Perry of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth fame.
Toms dancin body is puffy now and his home for foster children built mainly with Bob Perry money to make Tom look good before his trial was a complete failure and after a year of sitting empty, it has been turned over to another charitable organization. Tom quit caring about foster children when he didnt need to hide behind them any more.
I see him around every now and then. He still aint speaking to me.

Huffpo is doing its thing again. This isn't the only story they've given a false 'news' appearance with the dating of old stories.
We're getting some woefully inaccurate stories posted, this is just one. Found an anti-Obama video with in full black helicopter mode posted in the V & MM that was years old and fully debunked months ago. Still there.

(31,936 posts)When you are found guilty and sentenced you go to prison. The only reason a court allows a defendant to stay out on bail pending appeal is when the court feels there is a better than even chance the appeal will succeed.

Even I posted a story a couple days ago about his sentencing. Then I deleted it when I realized it was dated January, 2011.

(53,661 posts)I've been caught with these, too. Not all sites are diligent about this, like Media Matters or Raw Story who generally show updates. The stories on HP are being put out as if they are news, but they aren't. I've seen the same thing on cable networks for that matter, and local news.
Items that are months or years old put out with no context. I've found in some cases they are held until a sponsor of some sort wants them released to affect bidding on government conracts. They make something sound like a crisis when it's not.
