Racist sign threatening Spanish speakers removed from playground in Delaware

A racist sign at a playground in Milford, Delaware that threatened to arrest Spanish-speaking people has been removed after it went viral on the Internet.

The sign, which was called out by conservative radio host Dan Gaffney in a Facebook post on Saturday, told English speakers that “parental of guardian supervision is required for the use of this playground equipment.”

But Gaffney suspected that a second message in Spanish was designed to keep “certain ethnic” people from using the playground.

“Ustedes debe tener un permiso para jugar en este campo. Violadores seran susceptibiles a accion policial,” the sign read in Spanish, which means: “You must have a permit to play in this field. Violators will be subject to police action.”

Milford School District Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Kohel told Delaware Online that she immediately took action to remove the sign on Sunday afternoon.

I'll go to night classes, save up enough for Rosetta Stone, whatever it takes to actually become passably bilingual. Everyone deserves the same respect and dignity regardless of what language they speak.

Sure would be interesting to research the decision-making chain that produced these discriminatory signs.

This *could be* a very racist town policy, but I assume everyone who has followed this story already knows what the likeliest explanation is. (There have been numerous OPs on this throughout the weekend)

The sign itself is not "a racist sign" so we start out knowing the author of the article in the OP is seeking to inflame, not to be honest. The only problem is that the two signs do not match.

The fact they do not match may or may not be indicative of a racist motive and racist policy.

It appears that the Spanish sign refers to a playing field that one needs to reserve to use. I think ever park system has some fields like that -- baseball fields, soccer fields.

One can assume a racist conspiracy and run with it, or one can see whether some park worker picked the wrong Spanish sign, not knowing enough Spanish to realize they didn't match.

Which was it? The wrong spanish sign put in this location by human error, or a racist policy of parks and recreation?

Is the question really which explanation is more fun? More exciting? Delivers more endorphins to people who want to be outraged?

If the spanish playground sign was found placed under the english playing field sign (the reverse of this instance) would it demonstrate an anti-anglo conspiracy, or would it suggest the person matching up the signs didn't read spanish (or english) very well??
