High Saturday could reach high 40's. That's springtime temp in mid January. I haven't seen much snow, most Sunday - about 3 inches. It is already melting.

This is in rural western Michigan. It usually is below zero at nights this time of year here, and we've usually had quite a bit of snow. Not last year, nor this one (at least not yet).

A kind of drama-doc that shows how we are collectively doing nothing except deny that we are living in the midst of an ecological crisis of our own making. It as if we are denying that Katrina ever happened and every major hurricane that came after it is put into zero context. Droughts and crop failures, winters that aren't cold, Springs that are more like summer and scorching heat. The fiscal cliff is nothing compared to the ecological cliff we are headed for and the failure of leadership has never had higher stakes.

which is amazing here. When I was a kid, we'd usually have at least one snowstorm in October, but certainly we'd have some serious snow by Thanksgiving. But we haven't had snow start until late for several years in a row now. It wasn't a one-year fluke.

And my kids will be wearing shorts and sandals in March. They did last year.

No wonder retirees move to Florida.

Alaska's mean temperature has fallen a couple of degrees in the past 10 years. I'll try to send some cold air down to you.

(And please don't think I'm denying climate change in any way...I'm not.)

and all this week will be in the mid 40s to low 50s. Our fall flowers never really died off and are starting to show some new growth already...this is only the 7th of January...and no major snow yet for this area. We have had maybe 6 days total so far of below freezing temps this fall/winter.

But the country that makes most PCs (China) and the country that fields a lot of tech support calls (India) are both having brutal winters.
