(978 posts)But as we know, most gun enthusiasts and that French guy (LOL) won't discuss the "gun" part of the issue as Jon mentioned. Now, the blame is mental illness, violent video games, war movies, gun control policies that don't work . . . everything "except" the gun part.
Their idea is just to add more guns, do nothing or wait it out hoping the anti-gun discussions will start to fade away.
Funny how the Conservatives who basically have cared less about health reform suddenly are concerned about mental health. What a friggin' joke. And good luck with that. The best mental health profiles available today have a 50 percent chance of actually determining which people with mental health issues actually turn violent.
I loved how the show followed up with General Stanley McChrystal in his interview saying there is no need for the average American to own a battlefield weapon whose only purpose is to inflict as much flesh damage as possible.
As Jon mentioned, we're all at risk so those few paranoid Americans who fantasize about an imaginary government take-over, can arm themselves to the hilt.

(268,846 posts)McChrystal actually surprised me - I heard similar comments from him earlier in the day

(30,252 posts)I can admit to mistakes once in a while. I need some hot chocolate. My back is killing me. I screwed up.
Honestly, I could have screwed up worse. (And sometimes I do.)

(35,698 posts)I don't know, "killing off" an active NFL quarterback is a pretty big mistake. Should be worth at least a day of self imposed exile from DU.

(36,649 posts)Violent movies & video games happen because there's gun violence.

(268,846 posts)but the NRA goons aren't listening.

(4,840 posts)I couldn't help but notice LaPierre, although he was against any control in regards to guns, he had no issue with suggesting controlling violent video games. But if, as LaPierre says, control of the actual weapons inflicting the violence won't help in regards to mass shootings, why does he suggest it will in the case of violent video games?
In other words, LaPierre knows control will work but he is using the existence of video games to take the heat off the NRA and gun lobby.
malaise
(268,846 posts)the problem is anything other than guns.

(4,840 posts)I'd be like "F You, LaPierre. You object to the government breathing down your neck about gun violence and so your solution is to advocate sicking the government on us!!!???"
First class dick move if there ever was one!

(30,252 posts)I'm a Democrat for the long haul, and a lot of Democrats began their adult life as Republicans. It is my firm belief that inside every average Republican, there's a Democrat screaming to get out - but not if they have to listen to pitches for gun control.
> but not if they have to listen to pitches for gun control.
Sounds a lot like "if you don't give me a big tax break I'll take my jobs elsewhere!"
Hilarious!

(11,996 posts)If a little inconvenience for someone to enjoy their favorite hobby in order to save a few 1000 lives isn't worth it, they weren't screaming all that much....not even whispering I'd wager.

(30,252 posts)Perspective matters. Just remember what happened on Election Day, 1994 - I'm trying to prevent a repeat of it.

(11,996 posts)Let's try preventing the next dozen mass murders, and the next few thousand gun related deaths instead - seems a wee bit more important.

(35,698 posts)Wow, their lives are tough, having to listen to people TALK about gun control.

(11,085 posts)Why can gun fans talk about religion and mental health and video games, and talk about banning things, about restricting people's rights in those areas, but refuse to talk about guns? If we talk about the dangers of drunk driving, we talk about alcohol, and we've made progress in reducing drunk driving.
tclambert
(11,085 posts)not the membership of the NRA or Americans in gerneral. He doesn't care about them. He cares about selling more guns. Think of him as PR spokesperson for Guns R Us. Then it makes sense that any solution or any issue he addresses must come around to "You should buy more guns."

(5,436 posts)So obviously he's going to shill for guns.
There are too many socio- and psycho-paths who make a great deal of money pursuing policies that are pure anti-Americanism. Other examples of American-haters are your typical repig politician, and weapon industry executives.
