Motorcycling while texting--Just don't do it.

FHP: Texting motorcyclist crashes, dies

ORLANDO, Fla. —A motorcyclist was killed in a crash early Wednesday in Windermere, and troopers say they believe he was trying to text someone when the accident happened.

Troopers said the 40-year-old, who has not been identified, was rounding a curve on Chase Road about 1:25 a.m. when the crash happened.

The motorcyclist crossed the center line of the roadway into oncoming traffic. Another vehicle struck the man.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said it appears the man was sending a text message at the time of the crash.

People are addicted to their phones. And they'll appease their addiction wherever and whenever they can, even in potentially fatal situations.

While I readily admit to being addicted to the Internet (thanks, partly to places like DU ) that addiction is only there when I'm at a sit-down computer, not a phone or even my Kindle.

Now, I do remember reading that younger adults have been polled and it was learned that something like 50% would not do without their devices, even when driving. So, until we have fully automated vehicles that drive us, we're going to have to put up with the device-addicted populace, and the consequences that produces.

I don't text and have never owned a 3G or 4G phone. I only turn my cell phone on once or twice a week to check for messages. I just don't feel like being connected 24/7 to the hive.

Or maybe, I read ya

I used to text more when I was married, and even then it was only while I was on the train to and from work. Now, the majority of my texts are to a friend on the weekend over whether we're seeing a movie or not. And whenever my GF gets a new phone, I suspect there will be a bit more texts between here and NZ

Otherwise, my phone is almost always tucked away inside of my satchel. It's not a fixture of my hand.

often times kill or injure other people with their stupidity. I don't believe they "deserve" to die because someone else was stupid.

I think I would have to be totally fucking drunk to think it was a good idea to text while driving a motorcycle.
