MILWAUKEE Robberies happen far too often, but a robber coming face-to-face with a gun-carrying grandmother is a little more rare.
Ernestine Aldana owns a grocery store near the corner of Muskego Avenue and Becher Street in Milwaukee. On Dec. 14, Aldana was working in the store when a man entered the store and pulled a knife on her.
"I was really scared," she said.
But as the man reached for cash from the drawer, Aldana pulled a gun from underneath the counter.
"I didn't think," she said. "I didn't remember what was being said. I just took a step back, grabbed the gun and that was that."
As the gun came out, the man ran away.

(10,201 posts)Can we stop it with the gun posts in GD? Both sides are stuck in a pissing contest where one side is pissing for distance and the other accuracy. There will be no winners in that contest. The only thing that really happens is piss gets all over the place in GD.

(2,866 posts)CBS) LAWRENCE, Mass. - While she was rocking her granddaughter to sleep on her front porch on Saturday night, Nelida Lozada was shot in the back, according to CBS Boston.
She had been on the front porch of her north suburban Boston home with her granddaughter when, around 10:30 p.m., a man with a gun ran up to Lozada and began shooting.
"She was just sitting there rocking the baby and some guy just came up and shot at her," the victim's daughter told CBS Boston.
Lozada immediately covered the baby and ran back inside the house. As she tried to escape the gunfire, she was also shot in the shoulder, her daughter told the station.

(6,960 posts)No.
It doesn't appear that that is what grandma pulled from underneath the counter.
Personally, I find this report fits with the rational position that an 'assault weapons' ban, a ban on large capacity magazines, and a ban on teflon, hollow point and fragmenting ammunition would be perfectly reasonable.
ProgressiveProfessor
(22,144 posts)Teflon coated bullets are gone, and Teflon was never the issue, it was the steel bullets. Those are effectively gone.
Hollow points are actually safer in terms of over penetration in self defense and law enforcement situations. They are the most humane bullet for hunting. Fragmenting rounds like Glazer further reduce overpenetration and danger to people other than the target.

A .22.
That's all I want or need unless I start going deer and/or duck hunting again.

Or even intentionally shooting their own kids.
So, you know, whatever. She's lucky the bad guy didn't just grab the gun from her and use it on her.

(54,770 posts)when he started thinking the only person who cared for him 24 hours a day was the grim reaper.
50+ years in military and as policeman, but he was too delusional from illness to even think of allowing him near a gun. A good man, who needed to be removed from guns.
We need to take a serious look at how we view guns in our society.

(46,262 posts)Not the NRA "More guns!" sales pitch.
As is, I can't buy a car unless it's registered, and I have a license to drive.
I'd say owning a gun should entail the same responsibilties.
As is, my .22 pistol is registered at the Sheboygan police department, to make sure they know I have it.
I hope I NEVER have to use it.
If I shot and killed someone I'd feel horribly guilty about it for the rest of my life.
But I have it, and am grateful I do.
A few blocks from my place a meth addict broke into a house and beat an elderly homeowner nearly to death.
The guy was finally shot and killed by police in a different county, he kept coming at the police even after being tased multiple times.

(2 posts)You can buy all the 'unregistered' cars you want. Do not have to have a title or insurance. And you can drive them all you want on private property- drag strip, back yard, etc. So thats BS.

(46,262 posts)Even if I buy a car and never register it, if I drive it on public roads without registering it, or without a license,) it's illegal.
