Yesterday at work a man came in to my office and talked to me for 2 hours!!!!

I work in the public sector, so my job is with the public, a "public servant" if you will I am new at the place and need to be in the town's folk good graces so its not like I can get in to arguments.

So this older gentleman comes in to my office and starts asking me legitimate questions about an application about to go before my board, and it was all ok and after we were done talking he starts telling me how he has heard good things about me in town and then out of nowhere he says "you know, Obama is going to kill us" And there I sat for about 2 hours listening to the conspiracy theories and pro life proselytizing where it wasn't angry or anything but it was BORING!!! Because I have heard it SOOOOO many times. At least he wasn't angry about it. He is a Vietnam Vet Ron Paul supporter (who of course is the only one who could have saved the country) and he couldn't understand why Romney wasn't elected. The only thing I said was "I am FROM Massachusetts, I suggest you take a look and SEE the condition he left Massachusetts in before you go too far in to thinking how misunderstood and for the working man he was. THen it was all about me being a Democrat, which was a bad move on my part because I really shouldn't let anyone see my political opinions. Its not out of fear or anything, its just not appropriate in my kind of job and frankly none of anyones business. But the good part was that we actually engaged in a conversation and at the end of it he said to me "Well even if you are one of them liberals, I respect you because you have well thought out ideas and I WILL look in to Mitt Romney" and I thought you know, I think that is a win for our side. He may never agree with me but at least he is looking at a Democrat as more than the screaming flag burning lunatic he was pretty sure we all were. AND he was actually in FAVOR of taking assault rifles off the street. Anyone notice that most veterans are? Maybe because they have seen people torn apart by those weapons and don't WANT to see it happen here.

I used to work as a waitress and a receptionist. It can get trying sometimes. You have to be polite and pleasant and act as if you give a shit about them when what you really want to do is dump water on their heads or just tell them to shut up.

I'm very happy not to work with the public like that anymore.

not unlike a few movies I've watched that I won't mention, I agree that overall, it was a good thing. Now, this guy has a face to go with the "ebil liberul" idea and maybe the next time he's hearing about how all liburls are just so evil he'll think of you and be like, "Hey, that's not true."
