We finally have heat!!! Cross your fingers that we now have good luck.

As some of you know the crazy saga of our moving situation. Had to move out of the apartment my wife and I lived in for 10 years because after the first landlord died the second landlord basically destroyed the house in 10 months. (if I could upload pictures to this site I'd show you.

So we find this apartment that is bigger and around what we had been paying. (Sticker shock at the fact we are paying about $200 more than we had been paying but it is cheap compared to the other places we say.)

Anyways the place we are living now is the first floor (we have the first floor of this whole house.) of a house built in the 1920s. There are 3 apartments 1st floor 2nd floor and third floor (which might be an efficiency because it is in the attic.)

anyways the first floor was being changed over to gas it was heated by electric. Landlord said the gas meter should be in on the 31st and we just call his handy man to light the furnace. He gave us the key on Dec 19th allowing us to slowly move in.

Dec 28th the old place we are hearing wood cracking under the floor (from where slum lord was trying to raise and level the floors of the apartment -old place) We get our big stuff out that day.

We try to sleep there. we sleep one night I get a hotel room for the weekend thinking Columbia gas will put the gas line in on the 31st like they told the landlord.

LOng story short and several hundred dollars later Gas line got put in yesterday. We now have heat and my wife has filed a complaint with columbia gas with the PUC-Public Utilities Commission.

Columbia Gas kept moving the date to get this line in they didn't care or show any concern about the fact we had some of the coldest weather this month. The electric vent barely worked.

Yes, I know some people would put the blame all on the landlord for not waiting until the gas line was in BUT he honestly got his chain yanked by columbia gas like my wife and I did. We also needed to be out of our old place by the 27th. City was giving us a couple of extra days but not much.

The landlord was helping us out by letting us into the new place early and I don't think he expected columbia gas to screw all of us.

That sort of stuff can just drag out and it's enough to make you insane. Glad things are starting to work themselves out!
