Cuomo Turns Hard Left

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), "who spent his first two years in office establishing himself as a fiscal conservative, turned left in his third annual address to the Legislature, and sought to reclaim the state's progressive mantle," the New York Times reports.

Cuomo "had two emotional fulcrums in his sprawling 78-minute address: gun violence and Hurricane Sandy. But most of the speech was devoted to an onslaught of proposals favored by the left wing of his party."

National Journal: "Cuomo's aggressive advocacy for some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation is already heightening speculation that he's seriously thinking about a presidential campaign in 2016."

contrary to yours.

If that doesn't matter and if his anti-gun stance is more important to you, then vote for him.

2. He's "a fiscal conservative" instead of a Keynesian Democrat? But his anti-Keynesian view

is to be overlooked?

Is this because
(1) He is opposed to the private ownership of firearms, even by firearm-owning Democrats,
(2) The views of firearm-owning Democrats and firearm-owning Independents are to be disregarded, and
(3) Some day the trickle-down theory will work.

10. About point 1

I'd find a candidate that bases opposition to firearm ownership based on the political beliefs of the prospective owner far more alarming than one who generally opposes private firearm ownership.

11. That's understandable.

I would like any candidate to recognize that there are both (1) Democrats that advocate against the private ownership of firearms as well as (2) a significant number of Democrats who privately own firearms whether they are advocates or not.

The 2012 Democratic Platform seemed to recognize this.

Unless I'm mistaken, there is an effort being made to stampede politicans to disregard that there are firearm-owning Democrats whose views may not coincide with the views of the advocates against the private ownership of firearms.

5. The underlying article gives useful context about Cuomo's past conservatism

The linked Political Wire article relies on a New York Times article, which includes this paragraph:

Overall, the speech served to reposition the governor, who has faced criticism from the left wing of his party for paying too little attention to their concerns. Liberals praised the governor in 2011 for persuading lawmakers to pass same-sex marriage legislation. But his first two years in office focused on a centrist fiscal policy that included a cap on property tax increases, steep spending cuts and contentious negotiations with unions that resulted in a cut to the pension benefits of future state employees. (from this article)

Cuomo may be doing a Romney -- departing from his own actual record of governance, so that his party's base (i.e. the electorate in presidential primaries) doesn't think he's too close to the other side.

I don't see him changing that view...he's not my candidate if he continues bending over for those interests.

He's got Anti-Frackers on his tail.

Did you ever hear Speeches from his Father?

Little Cuomo...shouting and trying to sound like some SAVIOR with TOUGH GUN LAWS...is a COVER UP for what he's going to allow in NYSTATE with the FRACKING.

It was a WHIP UP!
