If the game of politics cannot provide solutions to growing issues like disparity, gun violence or climate change, then politics grow less and less relevant to our daily lives.

Politics is supposed to manifest a reality in which the human condition improves; failing to do this minimizes faith and importance one would put in politics.

Whether it's Geithner or Jack Low or whoever, doesn't matter to me when I'm waiting for the bus and too broke to fix my car. Jamie Dimon and Lloyd Bankfiend and the rest can pal around with the Administration (and oh yes, they do). I'm waiting for the 12:10 bus.

... but in modern cars, I wouldn't be able to find anything resembling a head.

I assume you've shopped around, and that's a normal price?

Anyway, look around at other people driving. They also do not give a shit who the Treas Sec is, and don't have a clue or a care what the Treas Sec does.

Good luck with that repair.

Should just be glad we've got Obamacare, right?

I take two prescriptions every day that I need TO LIVE. Insurance doesn't cover until I'm $2400 out of pocket. But hey, I'm thrilled we've got Obamacare.

And meanwhile, the bus is late.

I'm guessing you're not waiting for the bus. When life sucks that bad, yeah, it's all about getting through one day at a time.

If the government gave a shit about the People, every citizen would have a minimum income sufficient for economic survival. Something to do with welfare.

Our intake manifold went south on us this year, followed by the fuel rail. All told we were out about $1500.

I'd guess many of those same people also make a list of all the things they do not want to purchase when going grocery shopping.

Try a DIY job with a little help from a local car guru. Shouldn't be much more than $250-$400 if you can find an e-buddy with a few tools.

If you're driving a subaru, notorious for blown gaskets due to their boxer engine design, a head gasket job should cost no more than $800. Shop around a bit.

Since it was due to a mistake at the shop...but on a Honda civic it would have been 800, like others have sad, you're getting over charged.

I just had to have a fuel pump replaced. The garage had my car for almost a week. After the cost of renting a car (no bus service where I live) and the repair, it cost me over $800.

For many, their personal life and that of their family, consumes all time available. They need to concentrate on getting through today, not what is going on in Washington.

I'm just coming back from practically emptying my retirement account because I've been out of work a year and a half and 30 of the last 48 months. Who would have thought the Bush years were going to be the high point of my career?

What the fuck does it matter which bloodsucker they put at treasury? It's not going to be the ballbuster we need. Never that.

35. I had to put four new tires on my car yesterday

because one of them failed spectacularly. By that I mean I have never seen a tire do that, ever. When I finally got to a lot where I could put on the spare, there were only a few shreds of rubber clinging to the bare rim.

I just barely made it, too, the rim had some scuffs but was undamaged. For that much, I am grateful.

Still, one of the last things I thought about when I set off to get my eyebrows lowered yesterday was having to get 4 new tires on the car to make it home.

Ugly surprises, we has 'em.

At least blown head gaskets are usually easy enough fixes once they tear the engine down to it.
