QUESTION: What mental condition is it when a person OBVIOUSLY screws something up and doesnt see it?

Did anyone catch a glimpse at Mitch Daniels reply?

I am almost ashamed of myself for laughing at conservatives, I am beginning to think that they have a mental problem.

I'm serious, these people are fucked up in the head...they CONTINUE to act like George Bush never existed and 2008 happened in 2009.

Is there a mental condition for this, I googled terms like bipolar or something but it sounds like it's not that deep but it's just a mental tendency or mental condition.

Thx in advance for any input

my comment, they simply say, "I hate Bush as much as I hate Obama".

I then come back, "Yeah, right. So, you didn't vote for Bush both times, right?"

To which I get no response at all except that I'm a lefty loon. Trademark response from the people who LOVE to chastise and claim people should take personal responsibility for their mistakes but who never do so themselves.

Maybe they wanted to bankrupt the country to try to force the shutdown of social programs due to a huge inflated deficit. Maybe they don't give a shit about the middle class and the poor. The rich got their bailout. I notice people like Mitt seem to be making shitloads of money still and paying a low tax rate. Hey maybe this turned out just like they wanted. Why should they focus on 2008 and 2009? Mitch Daniels probably isn't hurting $$ wise. They only thing they are pretending is that they actually give a shit about you, me or the vast majority of people in this country. Yet Republican voters always seem convinced they do.

Individuals with Antisocial Personality Disorder frequently lack empathy and tend to be callous, cynical, and contemptuous of the feelings, rights, and sufferings of others. They may have an inflated and arrogant self-appraisal (e.g., feel that ordinary work is beneath them or lack a realistic concern about their current problems or their future) and may be excessively opinionated, self-assured, or cocky. They may display a glib, superficial charm and can be quite voluble and verbally facile (e.g., using technical terms or jargon that might impress someone who is unfamiliar with the topic). Lack of empathy, inflated self-appraisal, and superficial charm are features that have been commonly included in traditional conceptions of psychopathy and may be particularly distinguishing of Antisocial Personality Disorder in prison or forensic settings where criminal, delinquent, or aggressive acts are likely to be nonspecific. These individuals may also be irresponsible and exploitative in their sexual relationships.

Symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial personality disorder is diagnosed when a person's pattern of antisocial behavior has occurred since age 15 (although only adults 18 years or older can be diagnosed with this disorder) and consists of the majority of these symptoms:

Failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
Deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
Impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
Irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
Reckless disregard for safety of self or others
Consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations
Lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another

Any of this sound familiar?

Unfortunately for the Republicans their "activist base" is a bunch of crazy ass loons who have really shitty social positions and crazy ass economic positions.

Obama panders to his activist base rhetorically, but this time around I think he's doing so from a policy-perspective (I personally was not particularly enamored with much of Obama's rhetoric in 2008, this is no real big secret here, of course!). Obama also tries pandering to the other side, on various issues he won't change (MIC, oil, etc).

Otherwise the Republicans just have a raw deal in that their activist base, the one that gets the vote out, that canvases, that leaflets, are a bunch of insane people.

But they created that monstrosity, they will just have to deal with it.

a good entry on it:

Cognitive dissonance is a discomfort caused by holding conflicting cognitions (e.g., ideas, beliefs, values, emotional reactions) simultaneously. In a state of dissonance, people may feel surprise, dread, guilt, anger, or embarrassment.[1] The theory of cognitive dissonance in social psychology proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by altering existing cognitions or adding new ones to create consistency.[1] The diagram to the right shows a new cognition being integrated into a person's belief system to resolve such a conflict. An example of this would be the conflict between wanting to smoke and knowing that smoking is unhealthy; a person may try to change their feelings about the odds that they will actually suffer the consequences, or they might add the consonant element that the smoking is worth short term benefits.

*****************

A good contemporary example might be the cops who have attacked Occupy encampments. Deep down, cops know they are part of the 99% but their job requires them to serve the interests of the 1%, so they must reduce the dissonance in this dialectical tension, usually by calling Occupers "dirty filthy hippies" so as to justify dehumanizing members of their own socio-economic class.
