Kansas considers new "bright" red card for food stamps

Kansas officials are considering replacing the current benefits card for residents who get food stamps with a bright red one.

The current Vision cards have an artistic impression of a sunflower, while a prototype of the new card is red with the “Kansas Benefits Card” label.

The Kansas Department of Children and Families said the card would be replaced because the agency has a new vendor. However, Tawny Stottlemire of the Kansas Association of County Action Programs said the proposed redesign could return Kansas to an era when public assistance recipients were unnecessarily stigmatized.

The Vision cards were introduced in the 1990s to allow food stamp recipients to use a plastic card to buy food at stores and for people who get temporary cash assistance.

the baggers. Moderate republicans and democrats are a very rare breed here now, not even on the ballots for many slots. Elections might as well be canceled, as the Koch-Brownback regime owns the state and the tentacles run far and wide at many levels of government.

they've done. And Kansas wonders why people think it's a horrible place. And TPTB think everyone is going to flock to Kansas for jobs and to live, because the baggers are making it such a wonderful place and a model for the entire USA.

so there is more for the wealthy when Kansans are too embarrassed to use their cards and, hopefully, won't apply for them.

Kansans . . . is this what you want from your state?

I mean, we will use the card, red, blue, or dayglo green. It's a low move by Kansas but it will not have any real effect.

We go to the food bank. Everyone who goes by knows you are at the food bank. It has not slowed things down. No one gives a shit anymore, just allow us to feed our kids.

by the Kansas authorities and gov't. The Kansas legislature and Gov should be ashamed of themselves for kicking people down who are already down and out and have no other means than to ask for help in order to feed their families. Jeezus. Leave them with some dignity and pride, for chrissakes! It isn't as if they asked to live this kind of life.

Kansans need to elect pols who care about THEM, rather than the wealthy who appear to delight in seeing people shamed and groveling.

all I have to say is that the shame they think they are imposing on individuals is actually a shame on Kansas and the country as a whole since we'd not need the food cards if our politicians would focus on JOBS instead of REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS of women. And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Kansas one of the states that went wild with abortions and women's rights bills the last two years.

Fine, Kansas, you want your shame displayed for all to see? Go for it, it's a much worse reflection on Kansas than it will ever be on someone wanting to eat.
