Pat Robertson: “Awful-looking” women are ruining marriages

http://www.salon.com/2013/01/11/pat_robertson_awful_looking_women_are_ruining_marriages/

So, a 17-year-old boy writes in to Maxim magazine complaining that his father never pays any attention to his mother.

“I’m 17 years old and I’ve noticed that there has been a change in my father’s behavior,” he wrote. “He spends too much time at the computer playing a war game. I’ve noticed how alone my mom feels. I just want my father to spend more time with my mom. What should I do? How can I talk to my father? I feel shame for him. Please help.”

snip

But then — BAM! Robertson draws the woman-hating card, throws it on the flower-decorated glass table in the 700 Club’s studio and suddenly it’s the mother’s fault.

“You know, it may be your mom isn’t as sweet as you think she is; she may be kind of hard-nosed. And so, you say, it’s my father, he’s not paying attention to mom, but you know mom …” he trails off and offers a spiteful little chuckle.

Men also have an obligation to look good for their wives: don't pork out, smoke, dress like a slob, booze it up, etc.

Any man that expects his wife to keep up her good looks must be prepared to live by those same rules for himself.

There are some things we can't control, and luck also has a lot of to with it, but within reason, we can do our best (given what we have to work with) to age gracefully. That goes for men and women.

I was watching the Niners-Packers game last night, and saw Pam Oliver on the sidelines. She's 51. Wow!

have an outdoor job where the weather has wreaked havoc on one's face, hair, hands etc. etc etc.

As one gets older, the realities of age and time mean that most of us are no longer models if we ever were.

In our household, it means we love each other despite the flaws because we know the road we've traveled and the miles have sometimes - many times - not been kind. Our physical appearance has become one of the last things that matter anymore because in the end, we're all going to simply look old and tired. If one has become so shallow that how your mate looks after 25 years of LIFE is damn important then I'd say those folks aren't trying very hard.

Teevee people have private trainers and plastic surgery. Unfortunately they skew a lot of people's understanding of what real living does to the rest of us.

Although in Robertson's case the real ugly is what's in his twisted blackened little heart.

And while I agree that people should maintain themselves, that's more for general health reasons.

At least that seems to be the view of society often.

A woman's appearance has often been blamed by a man's philandering or otehrwise being a lousy husband. But look at all the beautiful models and celebrities whose husbands are lousy. But don't we all know some people where the wife is a bit homely or at least certainly not beautiful, but the husband is still in love & is a great husband, it seems? Appearance is apparently not a factor (distinguished from cleanliness & good grooming).

As for hubby...I speak from experience when I say that video games and some other activites are addictive.

As for the son noticing dad's activities, it seems to me that what son is really saying is that dad is no longer a part of the family, which includes the son. Not just mom. That sounds like what happened to me & my hubby before we separated and divorced. The first thing you do is beging to separate yourself from the unit...you are separated in your mind, and you physically separate....then you divorce.

The son is very observant. Dad needs to unplug the computer, step away, and not go back to the computer. That's what I had to do with my Nintendo years ago. You can waste away your life with those things.
