Florida’s Governor Adopted a Dog for the Campaign, Promptly Returned It From Whence it Came

A dog can be a political double-edged sword: treat it well and you get lots of good press; treat it shitty and, well, just ask Mitt Romney how that worked out for him. Florida's Republican (and wildly unpopular) Gov. Rick Scott is the latest politician to fall victim to dog-loving media. The Tampa Bay Times reveals that shortly after being elected governor, the Scott family returned a rescue dog they had adopted during the campaign back to its previous owners. Yikes.

The Labrador, pictured above, was adopted shortly after Scott won the Republican primary in 2010. A picture of it was posted to Facebook, asking Scott's fans what the family should name its new pet. The winning name was, shock of all shocks, Reagan (keep in mind this was in the middle of the Tea Party's Reagan-nostalgia, rabble-rousing).

Recently, Florida reporters began to wonder why they hadn't seen First Family of Florida's Beloved Pet recently and started digging. They first reached out to Brian Burgess, who was Gov. Scott's communications director during his campaign:

Late Wednesday, Burgess testily emailed that he was working on an answer and recognized "the potential for a PR nightmare if the Tampa Bay Times doesn't receive a photo of Reagan next to today's copy of the Tampa Bay Times. So take it to the bank I'm getting you every bit of info I can lay my hands on.''

He must never have planned to run for a second term or he would have kept it knowing he would need it. Probably best because no doubt where ever the dog is it is in a better place. Would have sucked for the dog to stay with these LOSERS for 4 yrs just as a re-election prop.

The dog was quietly returned to the "rescue" organization of All Pets Grooming and Boarding directly after the 2010 election, quite possibly even before this governor's inauguration. I don't even bother getting angry anymore. This governor just simply makes me want to puke.

Sometimes families are unable to keep adopted animals for a variety of reasons and with great regret, and often many tears, find another home for their pets. In such instances, these families can be perfectly honest about the reasons. It's obvious based on the fact that the Scotts felt the need to lie about returning the dog that they had no good reason for doing so. I have no doubt that the poor dog was nothing more than a campaign strategy.

So one of my dogs escapes early one Sat. morning while i'm letting my other dog out. At the time I didn't know what happened, but found out later. A man and his daughter were out jogging and Ellie decided she would join them. They went into a church down the road to go to the bathroom & when they came out she was gone. They thought she may have run off with the Kroger in Franklin to Kroger in Belle Meade marathon, as it happened to be going by at the time. I believe this is what happened as she was found INSIDE the Walgreen's in Belle Meade by the Frist family and taken home. The kids played with her all day and renamed her Bonesey. So there u have it, the evil that is the Florida Gov. is brought to u by the t-bags and not the GOP.

FYI, your OP did make it to the front page, as that is where I found it @ 11:25pm,1-14-13.

I read your OP and down thru the thread. Then backed up again to look at the Lab doggie. I used to own a Lab, and I can tell you that that sweet Lab does NOT look happy. As a matter of fact, it looks very unhappy. Wonder when the photo was taken, but doesn't much matter whether it was while it was at the Scott home or at the the Humane Society. It's not a happy camper. Dayam...if I was anywhere near there, I would go get that dog and give it the home it so desperately deserves. Poor baby. This news just tears my heart out. What Rick Scott did was the essence of what a scoundrel he truly is. Labs are characteristically happy dogs. If it was getting the care and love it should have been given, it might be sitting there, but it would be looking up with smiling wide-open eyes, mouth open with tongue slightly sticking out. That dog's eyes are not wide open and has a fearful look about them. Eyes are sort-of looking down, with mouth closed. A rescue dog used for political purposes and then returned when he wasn't needed for those purposes anymore. That is sick. That is the lowest of the low. Geesh!

Jeez, some of these rethugs have a pretty sketchy history with canines!

I'll bet he didn't have to do any of the things that people do when they get an animal from a rescue organization. You have to sign a contract and the people can actually drop by unannounced to check up on the pet. Of course, an upstanding citizen like Gov. Skeletor needn't worry himself with such insignificant matters.

These "people" get more and more despicable with each passing day. We need to rid this country of these bastards and elect people who at least have a couple of shreds of integrity and humanity.
