Do you know someone with guns who maybe, just maybe, shouldn't have them?

What do we do about those people?.. The ones that have run to the store every time there's a horrific massacre, sure that the black helicopters are on their way?

The ones that buy most fervently into the conspiracy theories might be the ones that some kind of "stability" screening would catch.

What should the local police departments do about them if we manage to get some laws changed?

Regardless of your opinion of their actions.

The likelihood that they will ever kill someone is less than 0.

There is never a less than zero chance someone will murder another person. There is a zero chance a baby will murder someone, but even that is not less than zero.

If you know someone with a gun and that person is clearly unstable, then I would say that the chance they will kill someone is considerably higher than a zero percent chance. Someone with a history of domestic violence, someone who has been at least questioned about assaulting another person, or a person that spouts whackadoodle conspiracy theories may never kill someone. But, really they are more dangerous and shouldn't have guns.

Everyone says to ban certain guns and certain magazines and only the police should be allowed to have them.

Why?

Why do the cops need so much firepower if the populace isn't armed?

Think about it.

Where would you ever get any idea to the contrary? And that arming of the populace has occurred without anything remotely approaching the sort of screening, training, and periodic review which law enforcement personnel receive. Is law enforcement without defects or faulty performance? Of course not. But the notion that the general populace is somehow more proficient and trustworthy with firearms usage than LEO's is nothing more than gun militancy propaganda.

The city has very unusual firearm regulations for their officers. The worst of which is the 12lb trigger pull required on their firearms.

I remember reading a story, by expert (or highly trained) marksman when they were testing firearms with 12lb triggers. Out of the entire group, only one could quickly draw the firearm, aquire the target and actually score decent groupings. When asked how he did it, he replied that he was using both index fingers to pull the trigger.

I cannot imagine trying to pull a trigger with a single finger on something that weighs as much as a bowling ball.

His neighbors feel the same way and they carry guns as well.

They made these statements in court, yet retain their permit.

Was a hunter. Became a gun nut. Also somewhat unstable. Everyone in the family has this nagging fear.

He thinks he knows everything and can't handle the idea of being wrong about anything, no matter how minor.

if your family really has nagging fears, then you should be looking into what can be done to have him declared ineligible for firearm ownership. This will vary from state to state. In the end, you are your brother's keeper.

This is similar to figuring out when powers of attorney are needed for aging parents/grandparents.

He is a gun-show-nut. I am beginning to believe that he may in fact have something in his record that might cause him to fail a background check. That is the only justification that I can come up with for his paranoia that the gubmint will come and take away his gunz.

Someone from the hometown recently reminded me of a long-ago incident that he "caused" that would be a felony today. My parents must have shielded me from that one, I only vaguely remember it. I don't know if he was a minor at the time, if the charges were dropped, or what. Plus quite a few DUIs when older, most likely 2 or 3 other things.

Whatever it is, he sure is askeered!!
