But I doubt many that are would be afraid of a campaign for safe and responsible ownership.

However, had Obama actually done something I could see how there might be concern...until that happens I doubt gun owners have much to be afraid of.

The NRA and their sycophants have been screaming bloody murder over Obama taking executive actions, even threatening impeachment.

The fact that this is coming from Obama is enough to make most right-wingers automatically oppose it.

We're a well-regulated militia, so we might as well act like one - the least we can do is go through a refresher course on safe gun ownership.

Are you doing stand-up here? "Well-regulated" as used by the Founding Fathers means "trained like an army". Most of the fear-filled gun shoppe devotees are wayyyyyyyy too out of shape to even do one pushup, let alone finish basic training.

Every gun should have a title and a license that has to be renewed every year and transferred when sold. The owner should have either a gun owner ID or have gun owner stated on their drivers license.

Despite what the right-wing would have us believe, Obama is not some tyrant who can just issue an order and have it carried out. He can't reinstate the AWB. He can't ban large-capacity magazines. He can't require background checks for ALL gun sales. These things have to come from the legislative side.

We are going to have a long and heated debate on the subject of gun control in the next year and I predict the end result will be a few changes in our current gun laws.

There is a slight chance that another assault weapons ban will pass Congress but if it does it will be watered down. It may contain a limit of the size of a magazine that can be manufactured for civilian use in the future but will not confiscate existing magazines.

I see very little chance of a federal requirement to register firearms becoming law.

I do feel improvements to the NICS background check will pass. They will require more timely reporting from the states for those who should not be allowed to purchase weapons. It is also possible that an NICS background check will be required for all sales of firearms.

We may finally see some much needed improvements to our mental health care system.

There were be no consideration of revising our current laws on drugs. Consequently drug gangs will continue to fight over turf and become an ever increasing problem in our nation. In cities like Chicago much of the gun violence is due to such gangs.

The simple political reality is that the necessary votes are not in Congress that would allow the passage of gun control laws such as the media and many Americans hope will pass.

However strong gun control laws may pass at state levels. This doesn't scare me either as I live in Florida which is a very gun rights friendly state.

I ignore propaganda from the NRA and the far right and also the gun control groups. All the rhetoric from both sides is attempts to garner memberships and contributions.

What I do fear is that two years from now in the midterm elections, many good Democrats may lose elections because of the backlash over gun control.

Of course I could be totally wrong. Time will tell.

Ex post facto.

You could if you wanted to, but it'll be like the 94 ban, on manufacture and import. Certain states might outlaw possession.
