simple as that.

So we have a racist cess pool in our midst! It's a problem...they obviously want to discourage any blacks and Latinos out of East Haven. They have pretty much succeeded, but I ask, who will take their place? Probably blacks and Latinos!

Their racist police dept is in deep shit with the DOJ.

I hope that miserable excuse of a city gets its ass nailed to the wall by the feds. I have a couple of good friends there and they are wonderful people. but the town generally has sucked as long as I have lived in CT.

I have loved Modern on State Street since I worked there at Women's Health Services many years ago!

The sliced tomato pizza in summer is wonderful, too. It is amazing how a simple pizza like that can be so terrific, but it is...

every once in a while.

You know that old old church across the street from Modern? My dad's church rented that place for several years before buying their own church, he was the preacher. I snuck out of church and went to Modern more times than I can count, usually with a deacon's daughter.

and they only spoke Polish and finally they had to stop catering to the diminishing Polish community on State Street. Interesting...

But Modern is still here.

Hey, did you go to Yale?

when he rented it. I don't know how old you are but there was a church in new haven called gospel tabertacle, great old building that is now condos. My father started there in the 60's. John Ashcroft attended that church when he attended Yale. Got some slides of him at my parents piano in their apartment. He would occasionally come over for sunday dinner. My dad went to a bible school that his father ran in MO.

And no, didn't go to Yale. Had to work myself through college and could only afford Southern Ct. Finished at Rutgers though.

By far the majority of Latinos in CT are Puerto Rican. He'd have to eat pasteles, plus a heaping serving of crow, to gain any street cred with them.

I was suprised at the subtle bigotry from many students and some teachers.
Clearly, they bought into Nixon's race baiting and Reagan's mythological welfare queen.

I do like living up here in Litchfield County although Terryville is not nearly as nice as Litchfield. Cheshire was an experience of kids I went to highschool with having BMWs and their parents having extreme wealth. I am glad I left. I agree with you on East Haven. It has the reputation of being racist. Connecticut has always had some very racist areas like any other state. But it also has some very good liberal areas. The East Haven mayor sounds like a racist dimwit. A Republican racist dimwit.

In some areas in that county there is no mail delivery. Folks go pick up their mail at their little post offices! And these are VERY rich people. Not at all showy about their money.

BTW some of these towns are rated among the most liberal in the state (the town of Salisbury in the Litchfield hills is often cited). They have a lively cultural experience. One town has poetry readings on their Green every spring. People come out and read Wallace Stevens and Emily Dickinson and their own poetry aloud. These towns are not racist. Indeed, they are probably further to the left than most of the state, excepting some of New Haven...

this local priest has shaken things up and gotten the folks riled, so they are not too happy. Plus, they have elected a repub mayor (after a woman dem) so don't expect great things from him!
