NC Dems taking GOP to court over gerrymandered districts are looking for help.

As in other battleground states, NC was gerrymandered to the extreme, and, though Dem candidates received nearly 51% of the votes, overall, the Dem party ended up with only 30% of the seats.

The NC GOP is still trying to get the charges dismissed.

http://www.bluenc.com/help-us-fight-gop-gerrymandering

The GOP - yet again - wants our redistricting lawsuit thrown out!

Later this month, a three-judge panel in Wake County will hear a motion for Summary Judgment filed by Republicans to end the litigation seeking judicial review of the redistricting maps they drew in 2011. The GOP is seeking a back-door victory without ever going to trial to defend their gerrymandered legislative and congressional districts in North Carolina.

There is no question that we have the law on our side and have the evidence to show that these illegally drawn maps are not in the best interest of the people of North Carolina.

In fact, in a previous court ruling, the three-judge panel noted:

“Plaintiffs, in their challenge, have raised serious issues and arguments about, among other things, the extent to which racial classifications were used in the enactment of these Plans.”

We need your help now to have the resources to be heard in court! Our fight requires retaining the best legal counsel and expert witnesses to show how the Republican maps do not comply with the law.

Some say that the Democrats gerrymandered when they were in control, so what the GOP has done is fair play. The facts simply do not support this claim.

As an example in 2002 (after Democrats drew the last maps), Democrats in NC won 43.26% of the popular vote for seats in the US House of Representatives and 46.15% of the seats (6 out of 13 districts). Compare that to 2012 (with the current GOP-drawn maps) and the record shows that Democrats in NC won 50.60% of the popular vote for seats in the US House of Representatives but only 30.76% of the districts (4 out of 13 districts).

Further, in the legislative maps, more than two million people have been placed into split precincts…five times the number of people in past redistricting efforts. The 2012 elections proved that this kind of raw political gerrymandering leads to widespread voter confusion and increased costs.

These illegal maps cannot stand. North Carolina has a history of making all the “best of” lists. Best place to live…best place to learn…best place for businesses to thrive. The progress that has been made in North Carolina…in public education…in our community colleges and universities…in building a state that leads rather than follows…is all at risk.

As on so many issues, the GOP has simply over-reached – and they’ve broken both state and federal law. Tell the GOP that the Constitution and law still matter here in North Carolina.

Simply put, we need your help. Carrying this fight to the courts is an expensive proposition, but critical for the future of our state. Please give whatever you can today. We can win this battle for the people of North Carolina with your help.

this is the time to walk the talk. Ten dollars from 2-3 million people will goa long way to help democrats in North Carolina win this fight. Those that can afford to contribute more should give more. This fight is a perfect example where mouthing perfect society stuff is useless unless WE back the talk up with action. Where do you think the national democratic party gets the money that it needs to conduct fights like this from?

the worst people he could (while giving a nice pay raise to lure in the 'best talent') and I have a bad feeling about what he and the R's in Raleigh have up their sleeves.

It's going to be hard to undo all the bad that was election '10 in NC but we've got to give it our best try!!

My Rep thrown out of US House...I was left with no one to vote for. We were told that this was being "put through the courts" over two years ago when it started. Never heard a thing since from my NC Dem Party about where the lawsuit was going and what we could hope for.

Why should I give money to them...NOW? Because it might fix it for 2014? How can I trust this would be done since the minute Obama was Elected they started to hit NC with the Repugs doing Gerrymandering against incumbent Dems. Yet...we were told to "hold our powder" because it would go to Justice Department and that the NAACP was on it filing lawsuits. We waited and waited. Now we have FUCKING REPUGS RULING OUR WHOLE STATE!

This shouldn't have happened and "after the fact" asking for money makes it so much worse. After Howard Dean and John Edwards problems NC Progressives were cut out of the Party. The "Back Room" out in the "Parking Lot."

This is what happened in North Carolina.

I'm working for Brad Miller to run for Kay Hagan's Seat in Senate.

I am sick of this manipulation and the NC Dem Party knows this. I'm a Dem, too! And have every right to be appalled and angry at our Party.

I saw Rahm Emmanuel here....preening with his entourage...I was also here when Dean/Kucnich Campaigns were doing MEET UPS and went to several houses with enthusiastic/full of hope Dems who opened their houses to us for those Meet Ups where we left FILLED WITH HOPE.

It all turned down after that.

even though they'd been in the background...once 2008 came they and the Chamber of Commerce STARTED the move to RE-Gerrymander our Districts in NC.

Obama and Dems knew heads up it was COMING. And, they blame 2010 Election on
"Disaffected Dems" who didn't show up to vote. Damn It....All the Progressive Dems I knew got out their and Voted...but it had already started! And, it wasn't until ELECTION 2012 that NC TURNED BACK RED!

Dem Party Ops didn't give us the help we needed...they depended on OBAMA Charisma to carry the STATE. Meantime the RW GREW AND GREW...(plus Dem Govenor's Scandals, plus Dem Party Head Scandal... didn't help, either.)
