As an American, I was honored to sit on the platform today to listen and watch as President Obama took the oath of office. Although I did not vote for the President, it is my commitment to work with him, and leaders of both political parties as we look for solutions to the problems our nation faces.

(1,277 posts)but he seems to be the most sane one Kansas has at the moment

(67,089 posts)sent letters to him before questioning his vote or logic, and I always get back well thought out logical and polite responses. Yes, there are some real wackos IMO in KS politics, so that's why I find him so sane and refreshing. If I have to have a republican congressman, I'll take him any day over the rest of the R herd in KS. I would also prefer him as governor if we have to have a republican than the current one.

At least KS has someone trying to be reasonable.

(96,793 posts)He's as idiotic as the rest. He voted against Sandy aid and the only issue he seems to care about is the debt.
He's been rude at every town hall I've attended. He had one last year where he wouldn't let anyone in who wasn't a republican.
Kevin was a disastrously awful state rep and he's an even worse congressman. No way would I ever support him as governor. I'll vote for Mickey Mouse over him.

Are you active in the local party? You should be. Then you wouldn't feel like there aren't any Democrats in Kansas. There are lots of us.

(63,893 posts)He must be one of the smarter ones, because this is the future and the republicans have by and large been left in the dust!
Hope he makes a full circle of acceptance of reality!

(67,089 posts)a flat out asshole like many of them. When one lives in a sea of red, sometimes you're pleased for even a tiny life raft floating by.

(67,089 posts)remarkable in itself ... in a state where republicans often run unopposed by anyone. I didn't vote for him, of course, but he appears to try to straddle the bridge between R's and D's. One of the few, if any at all, here.

(1,277 posts)Maybe someday that will change?

(67,089 posts)just about all moderate republicans and democrats just aren't to be seen, for the most part.
Our republican governor is pretty much a shoe-in as I understand when he comes up for reelection. The state is run and controlled by the Koch Brothers and the republican controlling tentacles run wide and deep into state and local government.
And I guess this is what Kansans want. What used to balance it our was our democratic governor and the democratic senate, but that's all gone now. So, it's really all teabagger run, anymore.

(18,775 posts)I read your post about him being a relatively sane Republican. As someone who thinks a two (or preferably more) party system has value, that's heartening.
RKP5637
(67,089 posts)had more than a 2 party system ... that would break up the grid lock. What we have now is like listening endlessly to a domestic argument.
