Virginia's Senate adjourned today in honor of a slave owning Confederate General

Yes, Republicans in the Virginia senate adjourned in honor of Stonewall Jackson (today), a slaveowning, confederate general of the side that lost defending slavery.

On Martin Luther King, Jr. day, no less.

Oh, other stuff happened too, but I thought this was noteworthy enough to highlight.

“On motion of Senator Stosch, the Senate adjourned in memory or [sic] General Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson at 4:10 p.m. to convene Tuesday, January 22, 2013,” read the official minutes of the legislative day.

they adjourned TODAY IN HONOR OF STONEWALL JACKSON.

TODAY.

this isn't some bit of historical legacy foisted upon them.

they honored Stonewall Jackson TODAY. TODAY. They could have picked any reason to adjourn, with or without honoring ANYBODY.

they picked HIM.

HIM. TODAY.

stop apologizing for them.

it's beneath you.

i'm not arguing with you if you support this action TODAY.

it's MLK day.

and you don't know that.

whatever.

there are plenty of other liberals you can argue with, choose one of them. you've decided not to be a liberal today.

bye. if you're going to post conservatively, then we don't have enough in common to make arguing useful.

Perhaps you can find some other marked distinctions between Jefferson and Stonewall Jackson.

Because I believe that, yes apart from one common characteristic, there are differences in thought and actions in the direction of advancing human freedom generally.

With so many crazies, idiots, and just-plain bad shots in the Confederacy, we should have left them alone until they all killed themselves off...

I was born in the South, after all.

All the history books I read made him sound like a very capable General as well as a brave soldier. They never mentioned him owning slaves.

of Macaca fame named his only son Forrest, after Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate officer and the first Grand Wizard of the KKK. His two daughters also share names of prominent Confederates. These guys find no shortage of ways to express their racist instincts.
