Lip-synching - who really gives a shit?

I, for one, don't give a damned whether Beyonce lip-synched during her performance. It doesn't usually bother me when performers do this, but in this particular case I really could not care less at all, even if I tried.

There are so many other issues going on around us - how in the world can anybody be obsessed over this?

There were people criticizing Kelly Clarkson's performance- partly I think cause it had the imperfections and authenticity that goes along with an outdoor live performance. Thought both were really good, and frankly don't care if Beyonce's was lip synced, but do find that a tad ironic.

It's a weird thing. I remember a few years ago when people and the media went hysterical over that Simpson girl doing it on Saturday Night Live. Really silly thing to obsess over.

With all the daily mass shootings, why should we care about whether others are obsessing about Beyonce. We should focus our obsessions on people's obsessions who are obsessing over more important issues.

I prefer the sound of live singing over recorded singing and would rather sit in a lesser concert than see a star lip sync.

The reason there was a big to do over Ashlee Simpson lip syncing is that the performance was advertised as live.

On an interesting note - singing competitions used to be exempt from manipulations but Xfactor in England has used instant auto tune during the live singing of competitors - sometimes to make them sound on key, some times to make them sound worse. They have since desisted once this became known, but they still alter all recorded performances.

the performer better be singing, otherwise I could have stayed home and listened to the CD for much less money.

I don't really care either way in this instance, but it does bother people when something is presented as real, and in reality, it isn't.

When that happens at one of our nation's highest ceremonies, and especially with our National Anthem, I can understand how it would bother some people.

Is it a huge deal? In the grand scheme of things, no.

look at the pics of big Macs at their stores.

then look at what you actually get.

this is the sort of thing that is far more important - how we are lied to and accept it.

Lip-synching on television has been going on for years. ABBA used to lip-sync all the time. They even did it on an episode of Saturday Night Live.

And were mocked for it:

I don't care if she lip synced.

I'm just saying that if I PAY money for a live show, I want the show to be actually live. Thankfully I've only had that happen once, and it was the eternally awful Mannheim Steamroller Xmas Show. It was just about the worst "live" show I've ever seen and heard. I wanted to leave, but I was there with my family.

I wasn't sure what the temperature was on Inauguration Day, but if the temperature was in the 20s, that's when people can't sing right, musical instruments go out of tune and sound horrible, and musical performances in general just suck. So what do they do on every single Inauguration Day event that takes place in DC in January? They arrange to lip-sync the music.

It's not cheating, it's common sense.

Think about how many people screw it up, even though they THINK they know the lyrics and melody. Nobody wants to mess it up during an occasion like the Inauguration because as hard as it is to sing, it's even harder to recover.

Whether it's Yo-Yo Ma faking his performance four years ago or Beyonce lip-syncing yesterday, people want to see something real and genuine on the White House. They didn't travel from across the country just to see the performers get all half-assed.

Fortunately, Obama gave a very stirring speech, and he's still the main event.

Why even bother having her there to pretend, just play a tape or something. If she must be there, she can come out afterwards and wave or something.

I understand WHY the artists and show producers want it done this way, but it's lame.

And NO, this is not a reflection on President Obama.
