The conservative media decides they need to come clean about the man they really know.

• The overnight Drudge Report banner: “Insider: Gingrich repeatedly Insulted Reagan.” The headline linked to a devastating takedown by Elliott Abrams in the National Review, who wrote, among other things, that Gingrich had a long record of criticizing and undermining Reagan’s most transformative policies.

the powers that be in the GOP manage to bring Newt down (and I think they will) ,the damage is done. Those who supported Newt will not support Romney and Romney is the living example of the disparity of wealth in this country. The GOP is screwed no matter who comes out of this alive at this point.

(the idea that they are screwed no matter who comes out alive)

The best shot for the GOP right now is to have Romney and Gingrich batter each other for another 6 months and at the same time tear into Obama. When they end up at a brokered convention, they can pick a candidate to run against Obama who has less baggage, hasn't been torn apart in the primaries, and who has broader swing voter appeal (though I have no idea who that candidate might be).
