GOP Rep. blames gun violence on "Welfare moms" and them "frauding" disability for their kids.

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2013/01/22/1479781/james-lankford-guns/?mobile=nc

Rep. James Lankford (R-OK), the fifth-ranking House Republican, laid the blame for gun violence at the feet of an unusual suspect: the children of “welfare moms” who commit fraud.

In a meeting with constituents earlier this month in Oklahoma City, a woman asked the GOP congressman what he was doing to combat all the children who were committing gun violence because they were high on psychotropic drugs. Lankford replied that he “agree[s] with that” and then went on to blame Social Security disability fraud for the rash of gun violence around the country. “Quite frankly some of the overmedication of kids are because welfare moms want to get additional benefits,” Lankford said:

CONSTITUENT: My question is regarding the guns and is Washington at all aware of the psychotropic drugs that these children are taking? I guarantee it 100 percent that’s our big problem. [...]

LANKFORD: I agree with that. I think there’s a bunch of issues that, quite frankly, most liberals are afraid to talk about. [...] Where are we on all those psychiatric drugs? We’ve overmedicated kids. Quite frankly some of the overmedication of kids are because welfare moms want to get additional benefits and if they can put them on SSI through maintenance drugs, they can also put them on Social Security disability and get a separate check. That is wrong on every single level. Not only is it fraudulent to the government, but it also tells a kid with great potential, “don’t try because you’re disabled.”

The Klebolds are upperish middle class, liberal, and had no guns in their home. Dylan was awkward and bullied, or at least ostracized. Until Harris came along. Harris's family was retired Air Force. New to Colorado. Eric had been in trouble elsewhere. Dylan hadn't until meeting Eric.

I'm absolutely positive there's a part of the story that will never be told because there's just not much point, really. And because there is probably a lot that is either unknown or undisclosed by the people who do know. Both boys did participate, in the end. And they're both dead, along with the people they slaughtered that day. But one had more control in that relationship than the other. It was a sickening set of circumstances that led to absolute catastrophe for so many grieving families.

I know kids who were trapped in the school that day. Kids no longer in age, but they'll always be those kids who were trapped sometime. Certainly every single time there's another tragedy like this.

The more these ignorant teapublicans say the more public opinion on a wide range of issues is swinging to the left.

Of course, there are plenty of white people on welfare, so the racism has a big class aspect as well. But this is all beside the point, because many if not most of these spree killers are white males from middle to upper class families.

Psychiatrist give kids meds, kids get SSI.

I have had the pleasure of both Central Fla and OK, I cannot get out of either place fast enough.

Let me put it to you this way I was going to get stranded on a flight one time and the choices were OKC, where I was at or Detroit.

I choose Detroit.
