Doctor Says Hospital Beat & Ruined Him

Doctor Says Hospital Beat & Ruined Him

ST. LOUIS (CN) - A doctor who asked for leave to fulfill his obligations to the National Guard claims Barnes-Jewish Hospital officials forced him out of its residency program, had security guards beat him twice, had him thrown into mental hospitals and falsely claimed he had made threats against the government and worshiped Osama bin Laden.

Oladimeji Jacobs Alade, D.O., sued Barnes-Jewish Hospital, of St. Louis, the BJC Health System, and Nuri Farber, the hospital's director of residency training, in City Court.

Alade, who was a 2nd lieutenant in the New Jersey National Guard, claims the trouble started when he requested leave from the Barnes-Jewish Psychiatric Residency Program in February 2009 to attend to his military obligations.

Alade claims Farber called his request "unprofessional" and started a campaign to discredit him. He claims Farber made numerous allegations about his professionalism, which led to Alade's forced resignation from the program, effective July 11, 2011.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Resident_Matching_Program

Why would any medical student even interview with a program that treats residents like this and/or is so low in the rankings that they have to accept mentally unstable people? I'm not saying anything about Dr. Alde's case against the hospital, this is entirely about appearances. Med students are notoriously flighty and extremely sensitive to situations like this. They don't like trouble.

And for goodness sakes, it's a psychiatric residency! Shouldn't they be the experts in handling situations like this??? We expect better behavior from cops on the streets even though cops don't actually know what they are dealing with, or the dangers involved. We get very upset whenever a generally harmless mentally ill person gets beaten up or killed by the police.

I'm not sure what this guy's "military obligation" is either. Does anyone know how this works? I'd think the military would bend over backwards to have a doctor complete residency as soon as possible so they could take him or her on board as a fully trained physician when they graduate from the residency.

Lot's of ugly here on both sides here (as there usually is...) and not enough info to figure out the entire story.

But it's pretty clear our society in general is very touchy about allegedly unstable people wearing military garb, as well we should be.

Whatever happened here is mostly just plain sad, a confluence of unstable individuals within an unstable society. From what I read the administration and private security firm did not respond to this situation, possibly of their own making, in a competent manner.

Though it can be negotiated around in many cases.

There has to be much more to this story that we have seen so far.

Does anyone think it is weird that the camera taking the youtube video is sooo steady? Am I missing something here or could this whole thing have been staged? I don’t know about you but at that distance my video would be moving all over the place without some halfway decent equipment. And why was some random person just happening to take a video somewhere above where this incident took place? Did he try to antagonize them to get it on video?

on the frame and point it correctly. Why was some random person filming this? That is what happens with people having phones and camera that do video. If I saw a police altercation happening, I'd take a video of it.

The text of the article states "'As can be seen in the [surveillance] video, in spite of plaintiff's attempt to be civil and cooperative, plaintiff was again assaulted, beaten up, sustaining serious physical injuries including but not limited to head trauma, and other psychological and emotional trauma caused from experiencing two assaults and batteries within twenty-four hours at a hospital which plaintiff had worked for three years,' the complaint states."

The surveillance part is in brackets, but it would make sense given, as you said, a precise positioning of the camera and it being very still.
