Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is expected to bring the STOCK Act (The Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act) to the floor next week, a bill banning insider trading by members of Congress that President Barack Obama said hed sign tomorrow.
Reid, a Nevada Democrat, is still working out the details with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to decide whether they need to file cloture on the bill, Senate sources told POLITICO on Thursday.
Leader Reids office has made it clear to the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that they are prepared to allow a vote on the STOCK Act as early as next week, said one Senate aide.
Send me a bill that bans insider trading by members of Congress, and I will sign it tomorrow, Obama said during his address to a joint session of Congress.

(50,151 posts)This will be very interesting, I might even tune into CSPAN to hear the debate and see how the repubs attempt to defend insider trading by members of Congress. I will need to stock up on for sure!

...aaaand what else is in the bill?
Any reason why a room full of Dems might want to vote against the bill that a Republican crafted?
That would be embarrassing, unless we had our own version.
In fact, I'd bet that will happen. Each party puts forward a version. No majority is met on either, but everyone still gets to claim that they supported the idea against partisan protest.

(4,820 posts)They might actually pass this thing.
Meanwhile, I'm confident Warren will be our next Senator, but will be sending in some cash to make sure she can run ads to counter the super pacs that will be decending on our little state.
