and miss the real change.

Kind of like how we are so often distracted by silly news stories, and miss more fundamental or important shifts.

but on the second viewing I didn't see it happen either because I kept my eyes on the right side to see if it would attract my attention. Then when I looked the change had happened but it took a moment for me to see that it wasn't grass anymore.

The contrast was very low, the colors were muted, and the objects were all over the place creating visual confusion so you found yourself concentrating by trying to figure out what you were looking at. It was easy to slip a change in under those circumstances. Your brain is engaged in figuring out a visual puzzle.

Interesting.

But, I purposefully didn't focus on any one thing. If there had been no warning before, I'd probably have missed it.
