Wisconsin Republicans to turn North Woods into Giant Tailing Pile

http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/assembly-set-to-back-mining-bill-183v137-138127678.html

In the Spirit of Sarah Palin's "Drill Baby Drill" Wisconsin Republicans are poised to hand over the fate of Northern Wisconsin's watershed to open pit mining giant Bucyrus. CEO of Bucyrus is pleased that his millions of dollars of PAC and campaign contributions have paid off bigtime as Republicans roll Wisconsin over in anticipation of taking the "big one". Work on the 17 mile long open pit iron mine at the head waters of the Bad River is expected to start immediately.

Heavy equipment operating firms and mining support companies are poised to flood the area with temporary workers. While a few Wisconsinites may find work as bartenders and prostitutes for hard partying miners, in general most will see their tourism based livelihoods disappear as the tailing piles rise on the horizon. Heavy metals and arsenic once released into the watershed will end a long history of cutthroat trout fishing and will ensure that sensitive wild rice fields will wither and die.

State Republican lawmakers of course will be rewarded with continued support from multi-national mining interests in the form of donations, perks and kickbacks. One unnamed state senator remarked that he is looking forward to frequent company sponsored mining law symposiums in Aspen and Fiji.

Another lawmaker stated that the estimated 500 foot tailing pile will rival area ski hills and create a destination resort like Mount Olympia rising out of the prairie of Oconomowoc. Olympia Highlands was built on a landfill and serves as a ski area.

I don't know if this is illegal, but I do know it won't stop until someone is cuffed.
