Anti-Defamation League: Stop using Nazi analogies in gun debate

The Anti-Defamation League is calling on critics of gun control legislation to stop using references to Hitler and the Nazis, calling such statements “historically inaccurate and offensive,” especially to Holocaust survivors and their families.

The ADL cites the following examples in a new press release:

The Drudge Report, under the headline “White House Threatens ‘Executive Orders’ on Guns,” featured photos of Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin (Jan. 9).

Former Major League pitcher John Rocker wrote on WorldNetDaily.com about what he described as “…the undeniable fact that the Holocaust would never have taken place had the Jewish citizenry of Hitler’s Germany had the right to bear arms and defend themselves with those arms” (Jan. 15).

<snip>

“We know that the national debate over gun control is one of the most divisive issues in the land, and while Americans are entitled to have strong opinions, there is also language that is inappropriate and offensive in any such discussion,” Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, said in a statement. “The idea that supporters of gun control are doing something akin to what Hitler’s Germany did to strip citizens of guns in the run-up to the Second World War is historically inaccurate and offensive, especially to Holocaust survivors and their families.”

That's not what they said. They said that Delicate Flowers (gun nutz) live in fantasyland because of their fantasies/lies about Hitler.

because I agree with the ADL and think that fears of gun control are overblown. I also agree that equating gun control with dictators is offensive.

Nobody is coming for my guns - gun controllers don't have that kind of power. Hence my belief that gun controllers like yourself are not like Hitler at all. You just have very active imaginations about what you can actually accomplish.

Funny, gun control wasn't actually mentioned by the OP. Instead, it is about how Delicate Flowers are crazy for claiming Hitler was a "gun controller".

By the way, Tom Tomorrow called, and he has offered to buy you your very own thesaurus. Then you can post something at least remotely original, instead of continuing to parrot what was incisive and clever when he used it; but which has become downright tiresome in your redundant platitudes.

by now is your well-documented plagiarism, and you whine about a "personal attack". Sounds fairly "delicate" to me.

By the way, your last three posts titled "LOL" were hidden by a jury. You might wish to try something new. (Although, based on your history, "something new" isn't likely to be part of your repertoire.)

Plagiarism takes more than re-using a convenient label like Delicate Flower.

You can look up "plagiarism" on any online reference source like wikipedia.

If you concentrated more on education, like learning meanings of words, your posts would make more sense.

without attribution." Sorry, Sparky, but unless you're now ready to claim that you initiated the use of the phrase "Delicate Flowers" in reference to gun nuts, that's talking about you.

Thanks for the advice about education, though. I've been a Virginia public school teacher for almost 40 years (thank you GI Bill); but no doubt such a sagacious wordsmith as yourself could teach me a thing or two.

As for your promiscuous use of "LOL" and the "ROFL" smilie, well fuck, I surrender. You have now so thoroughly demonstrated your mastery of the art of incisive wit and rapier-like retort that no one could possibly stand against such a relentless barrage of clever intellectual discourse.

I have better things to do now, so I'll leave you with the last word. Here, I'll even get you started: LOL

I thought, like a lot of my Delicate Flower stalkers, that you would've seen the various times I credited Tom Tomorrow with the phrase in question. Guess you didn't, so this is kind of a "wake up call" for you.

Keep riding that plagiarism merry-go-round! It's doing great for ya!

Thats what I was getting at. This from its transparency page - a hidden post that refers to hitler when talking about gun people, in a gun thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2014663

High irony, considering it is accusing the gun folks of leaning on hitler earlier in the thread, wouldn't you say?

Me? I'm LMAO.

I googled the thread from 2004 and found that the post and image had been deleted. You can see how the discussion proceeded, though. I am pretty sure it was "Dolomite", who is not a DU3 member. It's an old story. In this decade the gungeoneers poke at the margins this topic.
