Newt to Bob Dole "Why do people take such an instant dislike to me?"

Dole: "it saves them time"

http://bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2012/01/26/bob-dole-says-newt-gingrich-nomination-will-have-adverse-effect-gop/IuV2cwR0eRqGOeo18ACcsJ/story.html

“If Gingrich is the nominee, it will have an adverse impact on Republican candidates running for county, state, and federal offices,” Bob Dole wrote. “Hardly anyone who served with Newt in Congress has endorsed him, and that fact speaks for itself. He was a one-man-band who rarely took advice. It was his way or the highway.”

The former Senate majority leader, whose tenure overlapped with that of Gingrich from 1995 until he ran for president a year later, said his House counterpart “had a new idea every minute and most of them were off the wall. He loved picking a fight with Bill Clinton because he knew this would get the attention of the press. This and a myriad of other specifics helped to topple Gingrich in 1998.”

Newt is such a shameless narcissist. "He was a one-man-band who rarely took advice. It was his way or the highway." This statement only backs that up. Pretty scathing indictment of Newton. And it isn't like this is coming from Ted Kennedy; it's Bob Dole ferchrissakes.

Seeing Bob Dole come out and say Gingrich picked a fight with Clinton kills Gingrich's creditably.

did you read any of the comments? most of them are delusional at best. here's a typical example:

''I'm old enough to remember real history and that was Contract with America, with Newt at the helm. Newt is in fact the only true leader who did in fact balance our budget...imagine that for a moment! ''

I especially enjoyed this part.

"Why do people take such an instant dislike to me?" asked a perplexed Gingrich, to whom Dole bluntly explained: "Because it saves them time."

assessment of the guy. He says it very cleverly, with his typical dry wit, but the bottom line is that Newton was a blowhard, an asshole, a smug little shithead, and the reason his wife (at the time) got clued into what was going on with him and Callista was because his very own STAFF ratted him out. Many of them were actively looking for other positions well before Newt got in hot water. Apparently it was a toxic work environment.

Sobbing John hitched his wagon to the 'Contract with America' star and when that failed, his reward was getting bounced to the back of the line. He's never forgiven Newt for that. It doesn't look like Newt is somebody who can inspire much loyalty, which is a pretty essential quality for an executive. W. may have been a bad president, but he was at least able to do that.

It might sound strange, but I'm finding more and more similarities between Newt and Gorbachev, of all people. Gorby was also pretty bad at inspiring loyalty. People close to him in politics often ended up feeling frustrated and betrayed. He was also an 'ideas guy' with a lot of not so great ideas. He also saw himself as an agent of change and watched his plans blow up in his face. He also saw his own crew turn on him.

Because he cheated on his wife while trying to get Bill Clintion impeached for adultery?

And that is without including the hilarious idiocy surround his proposed plans to scrap child labor laws and replace janitors with poor kids and building a theme park with log rides on the moon.

Newt is a hypocritical piece of crap and a true scumbag to the very core. But Dole is right - if he's the nominee they will lose big everywhere, and I really hope he's right.
