Oak Harbor WA...Council member walks out of city meeting over armed veteran

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Councilman-walks-out-of-meeting--188298651.html

The City of Oak Harbor is getting national attention after a recent video posted to YouTube shows a city councilmember walking out in the middle of a meeting when he learned a resident was carrying a concealed weapon inside city chambers.

Mayor Scott Dudley says within the last week his inbox and voicemail have been inundated with hundreds of messages from people around the country in support of his decision to apologize for Councilmember Rick Almberg's actions during the Jan. 15 city council meeting.

"Right now, as we speak, I have well over 300 emails all from people who felt compelled to reach out and say, 'Thank you for standing up and defending this disabled vet,'" Dudley said.

I have emailed Mr Almberg and thanked him for his courage...would you do the same thing...

People with guns are fucking dangerous people. Period.

People with guns should be made to wear markings so that we know to keep them away from peaceful members of society. Better yet, make all guns give off a sound like a fire alarm whenever the gun is within a thousand yards of anyone but the owner.

That's our answer: Gun alarms. You get the right to bear arms and everyone else gets to know you are dangerous and should be avoided.

Why is it that so many gun-slingers here just don't understand that without your guns, you're cool. And yes, when you have a gun, the fear is a wise emotion. What is so hard to grok about that?

Forget marking the owners. Mark the guns. Better yet, make the bullets radioactive and let a tax on guns pay for Geiger counters for everyone so that we can tell who has bullets on their person.

Set up spots where many people pass and whenever a radioactive bullet sets of the alarm people can follow the carrier and have the cops check them out before they do something stupid.

Not racial, not religious (except gun nuts do have their own religion, eh?)

But forget that. What kills people are bullets. So we make bullets be radioactive and issue Geiger counters so we can track the bullets around and tell people: Stan away from the bullets!

I like it! Empty guns are safe. It's the bullets that we have to beware.

You have a problem with the public being made aware of dangerous deadly bullets?

One of the biggest problem with guns is that their owners are often times self-deluded into thinking that their death-dealing toys have magically made them more relevant. For lack of a better name I propose that we call this the "man card" effect. Both this vet and the thug in my photo *want* people to associate them with their gun -- what, are you seriously going to argue with them when they have the power to coerce you into obeying them? That, of course, is the problem.

Really, why coddle the criminals like you want? Just because all of you are dangerous and you don't want to be seen as being just like the criminals? Why do you want the criminal gun packers to be hidden?

Why are some afraid to tell people they are packing heat?
Do not know about others, but I am not afraid, Concealed is the law that is what CCW is.

Why do law abiding packers want to hide the fact they are packing?
I do not need to bring attention to myself or cause unreasonable fear to others. I very rarely carry and have had to pass training and have a federal background check and also be checked by my local sheriff.

The councilman also is an ex vet and owns guns. He just does not feel that council chambers is an appropriate place for guns.

If you watch the number in attendance when the gun guy goes to get a seat there are about 20 sitting down..after the vote the number drops to about 7... some I guess did not want to be there knowing some one was packing.

He's not a sheriff or a police officer. He has no business having the impression he is responsible for protecting other people with his gun. That pushes him toward being a vigilante.

He was trained as a solider, not a law enforcement officer. They are two very different things.

What exactly will be his decision-making process for when to draw his weapon to protect other people? It scares me to think about it.
