(36,437 posts)registry or something, where every gun was tracked, and then if it was stolen, we could compile, like, I dunno, statistics or data on that, and track how these things are, y'know, like, kinda like disseminated or circulated through different communities. of, geez, if only such a thing were possible! If only there were some mechanism for figuring out who owned a gun and when, when it changed hands, if it was ever lost or stolen, what its progress was after that and from the time it was recovered! Oh, if only such a miraculous set of protocols could exist.

In addition, you can't bust a prohibited person from owning an unregistered gun. You can bust them for own or possessing a gun, but not for failing to registering their gun.
