There could be several. The article has one. Some of the commenters there have others.

My kid's first school served lots of hot dogs and wilted salads, lots of macaroni and cheese and pepperoni pizzas. High fat, high salt, high starch. Low nutrient. The salads went in the trash for the most part.

That's what the kids got at home.

My kid's second school serves some of this kind of food. A lot less of it, though. I've eaten lunch there, too, and seen a lot of kids grabbing green salads and things like grilled chicken.

It's what the kids get at home.

Different cultures. Different income levels.

The French are more like the Japanese. They insist more often that their kids eat grown-up food. Like the Japanese. In the US we "cater" to our kids by giving them a steady diet of low-effort lunchables, corn dogs, hot dogs and hamburgers and soda and pizza. Crap food.

This indicts not the schools but the parents. It indicts not the government but the parents.
